Layout on Beaux Arts Ball, Times, Mrs. MacDonald. A party named after the School of Fine Arts in Paris was held at Jones Hall at the College of Puget Sound. It was hosted by the art honorary fraternity, Alpha Rho Tau (Greek letters for ART), in honor of the college's foreign students. On February 12, 1949, the art honorary fraternity of the College of Puget Sound, Alpha Rho Tau, threw their very first Beaux Arts Ball. The party was given in honor of the College's foreign students and drew students dressed in all sorts of lavish, exotic and creative costumes. A masked couple glided by in fanciful dress; she a column of black and white ruffles and he a rectangular knight. Other couples looked on from tables near a wall decorated with modern drawings. All of the revelers were unidentified with the exception of the woman directly left of the female dancer. She was Maxine Lister, the winner of the first prize for most original costume. College of Puget Sound had a ground breaking ceremony for their new building, the CPS Memorial Field House. The Memorial Field House will be dedicated to the 138 men from CPS who died in World War II. The Field House will be located on the south side of campus, it will have a steel reinforced concrete foundation, the building will be 200 feet by 168 feet and 36 feet from the floor to the overhead beams; it will accommodate more than 5,000 people. CPS. Marcello Mochi, center, was the Italian vice consul stationed in Seattle. He came to Tacoma to meet with the World Affairs Council October 5, 1948, at the College of Puget Sound. He told about the Italian struggle and some of the war-torn areas where he served during the Ethopian conflict and World War II. Shown with Mr. Mochi are Ray W. Todd Hall, College of Puget Sound's men's dormitory, was designed by architects, Sutton, Whitney & Dugan and Mock & Morrison. The ground breaking ceremony was held in July 1946. The cornerstone was laid by Dr. Edward H. Todd, CPS's previous president, the building was named in his honor for his many years of service to the institution. Pacific Lutheran College has an important role in the education system of the Pacific Northwest. The growing College has gained national acclaim for its outstanding methods of instruction. May Day celebration. The royal court that reigned over the Pacific Lutheran College's May festival held May 8, 1948, included Queen Ardys Bredvold, seated in the center. Seated in front of her are two sophomore attendants, L-R, Jean Hesla and Phyllis Brynestad. Other attendants standing in the back, L-R, are: Dolores Berg, Doris Berg, Afton Hjelm, Anita Roth, Catherine Breum and Doris Johnson. Four children were included in the coronation, L-R, Dean Johnson, crown bearer, Ann Marie Malmin, train bearer, and Margaret Ronning and Judith Leraas, flower girls. Dr. Seth C. Eastvold, President of Pacific Lutheran College, and his wife Enga are getting ready to depart on a three month trip to Europe. The Eastvold's will be visiting England, Scandinavian countries, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Switzerland and Italy. Dr. Eastvold plans to make two quick stops prior to leaving for Europe. In Moorhead, Minnesota he will give the Commencement Address at Concordia University, and he will attend the Biennial Convention of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. The Eastvolds will return to Tacoma in September (T. Times, 5/29/48, p. 10).

ca. 1954. Groups of students chat on the campus of Pacific Lutheran College in 1954 outside the new North Hall dormitory. The presence of long coats and sweaters may mean that it was taken in the fall. North Hall, along with the South Hall dormitory for women, was completed in fall, 1954; it housed 120 men students, two per room. Both new dorms were very large and made of brick with multiple windows to bring inside the beauty of the outdoors. They were designed by architects Lea, Pearson & Richards and built by Bennett-Campbell, general contractors, at a total cost of $1,150,000. The men enjoyed the same amenities as the women: two large lounges, several smaller ones and a complete self-service laundry. A busy social and spiritual life was planned by dormitory officers. ca. 1955. Pacific Lutheran College's Memorial Gymnasium. Although already in the planning stages, its construction became a necessity when the old gym burned to the ground in June of 1946. The new gymnasium, designed by Lea, Pearson & Richards, was dedicated December of 1947. It was built of reinforced concrete. The interior was 134 x 142 feet and held 3,500 (or 2,500 spectators in bleachers with a 50 x 90 foot playing floor.) The building also had classrooms and dressing rooms and showers for men and women. A 46 x 50 foot addition was available for use by the Varsity football team. The cost of the gym was $250,000 and was built debt free.
