In October of 1946 the Washington Steel and Welding Company, 701 East D Street, received an order from the Markham & Wright Co. for 10,000 hot water tanks. Washington Steel And Welding manufactured tanks ranging in size from 18 to 48 inches in height with capacities from 7 to 15 gallons. Their smallest water tanks were designed for use in trailers and "auto camps". (T.Times, 4/11/1947, p.2)

General Electric Supply Corp, exterior of the building. This was a new wholesale district office for General Electric. Tacoma was considered a good central location for their regional distribution. Six salesmen covered southwestern Washington and the Olympic peninsula from this location.

Western Machine Works. The interior of the shop. A metal frame is seen in the foreground. The background is filled with machines and materials. Western Machine Works specialized in veneer and hoisting machinery. They also handled general repair work. Headed by Frank Schmidt, the firm was established in 1922.

Titus Motor Company. A Ford pick-up truck with the name of Titus Motor Company painted on the cab door and a sign, "Ford" and "Best Service in Town" painted on a board over the open bed in the back. The truck has white-wall tires with the spare tire attached just in front of the back fender. The truck is parked along a boulevard strip in a residential neighborhood.

Mayor Melvin G. Tennent, right, shakes hands with "Banjo King" Eddie Peabody at (Old) City Hall. Edwin Ellsworth "Eddie" Peabody, 1902-1970, was a well known vaudeville star. The 24 year old performer was appearing in person for the first time in Tacoma, from 12/2- 12/29/1927, at the Broadway Theater. The diminutive blue eyed, blonde haired young man was an expert on all stringed instruments, playing with proficiency the banjo, violin, mandolin, guitar, harp and others. While in town, he also made guest appearances to autograph his records at Sherman Clay Co., Hopper Kelly and Rhodes Bro. The rear wheel wells are skirted and the spare tire is encased in a special cover at the rear of the automobile. Brown & Haley, candy boxes. A box with lid open displaying Almond Buttercrisp. The lid is decorated with Dutch motifs. The candy is advertised at 5 cents each. Brown & Haley was founded in 1913 and has an international distribution.

Brown & Haley, candy boxes. A box with lid open displaying Mountain Bars. This is a box of 24 - 5 cent bars. The candy is made of fondant dipped in milk chocolate and mixed with nuts. The lid of the box is decorated with a drawing of a snow-covered mountain and drawings of people fishing, hiking and bird watching along with deer. The Brown & Haley Company was located at 110-116 East 26th Street.

The Brown & Haley Company has been making candy in Tacoma since 1913. Although they are internationally known for their Almond Roca, they have always made other brands of candy. Over the years they have sold Mountain Bars, Almond Buttercrisp, and - as this advertising photograph from 1946 shows - Johnny Peanut bars. Johnny Peanut was a peanut covered taffy bar, and a "Winnah".

New Yorker Cafe for Dohrman Hotel Supply.The double grill in the kitchen provides a large cooking area. The large stock pot on the left has a spout with a turn off valve at the bottom of the pot and a water line is provided with a faucet above the pot. The exit flues for the venting hoods over the grills bend towards each other before exiting through the ceiling forming an almost decorative look.
