Old Barnacle Bill's Leveled- A longtime Tacoma waterfront landmark, Barnacle Bill's Cafe at the intersection of 11th Street and Port of Tacoma Road, was leveled early last week. The structure has been a cafe since the 1930s and was moved to the site from across 11th Street in 1941, according to owner Ben Erhart, who bought the establishment in 1950. The cleared site will be developed as a parking lot for the new, enlarged Barnacle Bill's, which has opened its doors to the rear of the site.

Two Nisqually tribal members prepare nets in lower Nisqually River in defiance of state regulations. Nisqually tribal members planned to exercise their right to fish under the Medicine Creek Treaty following a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision which allowed states to regulate off-reservation Native fishing.

The image of the No. 2 nuclear project of the Washington Public Power Supply System at Hanford is reflected on the surface of an adjoining spray pond, one of two comprising a back-up safety cooling system. Each pond contains 7 1/2-million gallons of water. Pillars on the circular structure in the foreground hold the nozzles to spray water into the air which would be cooled by evaporation as it falls back into the pond.

New Construction Site: Shown here is the current terminal for Totem Ocean Trailer Express (TOTE) which leases the 25-acre site from the Port of Tacoma. This area will be the new site of a two-berth container facility for Tacoma Terminals, Inc., a subsidiary of Sea-Land Services, Inc. The Port is relocating the TOTE operation to Blair Waterway, where it will build a modern, expanded, roll-on, roll-off facility.

A 40-foot model of the Tacoma Freeway as it will appear when completed in several years is being displayed this month on the second floor of the county-City Building.
