Designer Marie Smith of Hallmark Cards Inc., suggests that the children be allows to create their own masks because "it makes Halloween more fun and gives the children of accomplishment." "Bug-eyes" is made from assorted sizes and colors of paper plates. "Pretty Piggy" is strictly a feminine pig, who will be the belle of any Halloween ball.

He said he was an Irishman named Jack O'Lantern and he wanted to have his growth removed from his head, but Mrs. Kitty Stolen, admitting nurse at St. Joseph Hospital and Health Care Center allowed as how he'd better wait until Sunday, Halloween night. Benjamin Harris III was sentenced to death in 1984 for the shooting of Tacoma auto mechanic Jimmy Lee Turner. Harris was exonerated in 1997 and became the first death-row inmate released from prison in Washington state since the state reinstated the death penalty in 1981.

Jim Heckman was hired to fill the position of Executive Director for the Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission on May 6. He has been working for the Commission since last July as Director of Biological Programs. Prior to his employment at the Commission, Heckman spent twenty-five years with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Herd is 36 years old in the photo and became a firefighter in 1971. According to Herd, he was a part of the first group of minority applicants that the Tacoma Fire Department recruited in the early 1970s.
