The Marchetta Ki girls marching unit at Lincoln High School was scheduled to perform at two football games during the first weekend of November in 1948. On Friday evening, November 5 they appeared at the Bellingham - Lincoln H. S. game in the Lincoln Bowl. The next day they were part of the halftime show at the College of Puget Sound (now U.P.S) Homecoming game against Central Washington. Lincoln High School band for the 1954 school yearbook The Lincolnian. The band, under the direction of Robert Dezell, played at basketball and football games. They played concerts at the middle schools and broadcast two performances on KMO. The highlight of their year was their "Bach to Pop" concert in March. (1954 Lincolnian- see yearbook for names)

Stadium High School's 56th annual graduation exercises, held June 8th at the Armory for the Class of 1939. Students at the back of the photograph, audience in foreground. The graduating class totalled 653 students and the ceremony was estimated to be attended by over 2500 persons. The sign "Education for What?" states the theme of the four student commencement speakers. Betty Binns, Helen Phill, and Robert Elliott tied for valedictory honors, each completing 3 years of study with straight A's. Class president Maynard Miller joined them as a speaker. Harry Pitcher (kneeling, far left), the engineer in charge of construction of the new Clover Park High School shop building, supervised the laying of the cornerstone on March 10, 1941. The $16,000 shop building was part of the national defense education service project. It was financed 50-50 by the school district and the WPA. The building was scheduled to be completed in June, when the school would begin to conduct both day and night classes for enlisted men. Planned courses include metal and wood working, blueprint reading, machine drawing, pre-aviation and completion of high school studies. Clover Park was chosen as the location for the facility due to its proximity to Ft. Lewis, Camp Murray and McChord Airfield. Fife High School's hoopmen defeated Clover Park, 44 to 31, in an exciting game at Lakewood that packed the gymnasium. Racking up Fife's 11 to 1 winning season were: Spear, Rowe, Dreyer, Evancich and Vinson, along with substitutes Sakahar, Hamamishi, Herting, Wilcox and Shagami. (T. Times, 2/20/1941, p. 15).

The Rifle Club was designed to promote the correct use of firearms, both for recreation and in national defense. The Club, after the departure of their regular advisor, got a late start in the school year, but still managed to hold two matches with Marymount, losing one and tying the other. Beauties participating in the "Poise, Posture and Personality" contest sponsored by the Lincoln High School Music and Physical Education Departments on February 21, 1941 were also trying out for the 10 model roles in the upcoming original musical comedy "Of Men and Models." Participating contestants had be to 5'4" or over and wear bathing suits and high heel shoes. Night school classes at Lincoln High School. On Monday and Thursday nights, over 1700 adult students descended on local schools to take part in the 61 classes offered in night school. This appears to be a shop class, one of the most popular offerings. The two students listening intently to the instructor are identified as Bill English, kneeling, and Jack Clark. (T. In March of 1940, Stadium High School presented their 28th annual opera "Desert Song." The 200 students in the cast rehearsed three months to perform the light opera March 28-30. The lead was played by Donna Mae Jaden, who later achieved fame as musical and film star Janis Paige. Members of the 41st Division of the Washington National Guard worked on their high school studies at Clover Park High School while in uniform in May of 1941. Even though they had been called up for active duty, they took classes to enable them to graduate from high school with their regular classes. The program was believed to be the only one of its kind in the United States. (T. Times 05/09/1941 p.2)

On May 8, 1941, 250 members of the 41st Division graduated in uniform from Clover Park High School. Their National Guard unit was called up for active duty before they were able to complete high school. A unique program was devised that allowed them to learn soldiering during the day and to complete their high school credits at night. (T. Times 5/8/1941, pg. 8)

New addition at Clover Park High School. Half circle one story music room attached to rear of two story brick building with a greenhouse on the roof. The greenhouse was built just outside the new biology and botony lab. The addition cost $97,213, over $39,000 from state grant, $77,000 from a bond issue and some local tax funds. Charles and Clarence Rueger, Architects, designed the structure. Although brand new, the school was already overcrowded with 770 students and a large increase in enrollment was expected. Students from McCarver Junior High School fill the stage during the May Musical Festival in 1951. Several girls have wound streamers around the May pole in the center of the stage. A large watering can hangs against the back curtain. Several of the students wear butterfly wings while others hold large tulips, daffodils and sunflowers. A worker appears miniscule as he stands high on top of the giant, curved beams that would hold up the dome shaped roof of the cafeteria/auditorium of the Henry F. Hunt Junior High School (later renamed Middle School) at 6501 So. 10th St. Posed under cloudy skies on June 26, 1957, the new wooden structure resembles a multi-legged spider. Architect Robert Billsbrough Price's unique designs was described as "one of the most imaginative new schools in the nation." Construction of a new junior high was approved because of the growing school age population in Tacoma's western region and in neighboring Fircrest.
