Living room of the home built during the "Farm in a Day" project at Moses Lake, Wa. For Hal Hughes & Assoc. During a 22 hour period on May 29, 1952, 300 volunteers built a complete $75,000 farm- including seven room house, barns, livestock areas and planted fields- and gifted it to deserving WWII vet and farmer Donald Dunn. The house was designed with the farmer in mind. One of its main innovations was to place the fireplace in the dining room, so that the farmer could relax in the evening without changing clothes. The living room could then be kept in pristine condition for entertaining guests.Exposed beams and cedar walls gave a rustic but comfortable touch to the living room. All the furnishings and appliances for the house were provided, down to the food on cupboard shelves. (Popular Mechanics "They Built Him a Farm in a Day" Dec. 1952, pg. 118-22+)

"Black Liquor" was the substance that was left after the chemical "cooking" process that removed sap and pitch from the cellulose fiber. Rounds of cheese stored for aging, cheese making process- Tillamook cheese. Taken for the Tillamook County Creamery Assoc., Garibaldi Oregon. Most cheese is not ready to eat until it has had time to ripen, or age. The flavor of the cheese develops during the ripening period. Bacteria in cheese keep working until the cheese is right, and the cheese maker encourages or stops bacterial growth by controlling the temperature and humidity of the storage area. Cheeses lose moisture as they ripen. The longer a cheese is left to ripen, the drier it gets and the harder it will be. The ripening period can range from a few days for soft cheeses to more than two years for a hard cheese like Parmesan.

Exposure of approximately 300 people at the Alcoholics Anonymous Banquet at the roof garden of the Masonic Temple. In June of 1952, Tacoma hosted a Northwest conference of 750 members of AA from cities in Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho, British Columbia and Alaska. Part of the purpose of the conference was to inform invited community leaders and dignitaries of the origins and goals of the organization. There are a few empty chairs at the Saturday night banquet but most of the tables are full and another group of people stand at the rear of the picture. It appears that the banquet has not begun- most places are set with salad plates and coffee cups. Some banquet attendees have brought their children. (T. Reporter 6/21/1952)
