Tacoma Boatbuilding Co. was working on a contract to build and repair fishing boats for China under the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration program. The boats are intended to rehabilitate China's fishing industry. Tacoma Boat's production line methods are helping get the boats ready for launching at a rapid pace. Birchfield Boiler launching party. Birchfield Boiler was about to launch the third steel tuna clipper in a fleet of four on May 24, 1946. The steel tuna clipper was built for Al Davies. Adolf Olsen stands on the bow of his fishing boat, the "Spawn," on May 15, 1946, while an unidentified man is nearby. She was built for Mr. Olsen by Tacoma Boatbuilding at the end of World War II. Mr. Olsen was reportedly very proud of her and the good material that went into her construction. He used the "Spawn" for at least 19 years and caught a lot of fish - salmon and albacore - with her. Tacoma Boat launched a Pacific Coast-type purse seiner. The "F. D. Roosevelt" was built under the UNRRA contract for Yugoslavia. It is a modern boat completely refrigerated, powered by a 360 horse power engine, with diesel generators, 85 feet long, 22 foot beam and a 10,000 mile range. Commercial Distributing Co. made five daily trips from Tacoma to Seattle, they transported machinery to many industrial facilities throughout the Tacoma and Seattle area. They were fully insured and bonded and provided their customers with fast and reliable shipping. Lowell T. Murray. A side view of a very elegant four-door, hard-top automobile. The wide-wall tires and spare tire tucked in against the driver's side fender add to the handsome exterior of this fine automobile. Lowell T. Murray, Sr., a prominent Tacoma industrialist and civic leader, came to Tacoma as a young man from Ohio in 1908 and established the West Fork Timber Company. The Murray's residence on Gravelly Lake was called "Madera". It was the scene of a summer ball honoring house guests Elaine Schultz and Peter Strong August 17, 1946. Satterly - Teamsters Union. A four-door Dodge sedan with a dark finish sits in the parking lot of the Seattle-Tacoma Shipbuilding Corporation. Both doors on each side open from the middle post and the tires are wide white-walls. Photograph was taken in July of 1943.

Satterly - Teamsters Union. A Ford pick-up truck with three workmen in the front seat. The windshield opens from the bottom and the spare tire rests in front of the rear fender. It has a wide running-board between the front and back fenders. The truck is parked outside building 23 at Seattle-Tacoma Shipbuilding Corporation and has the number 30 painted on the side of the door.
US Army Transportation Corps. Hull no. 8 - TP225, 96' Wooden Utility Boat, Design #333, Petrich Shipbuilding Corp., Tacoma. Docked under the 11th Street Bridge. Puget Sound Boat Building Corp. began producing ships in May 1942. They were building government vessels and commercial fishing boats. Overturned truck and car accident. A Pacific Coast Motor Freight Co. semi-trailer truck, driven by Earl W. Brook of Portland, Oregon, and loaded with 500 barrels of cherries and berries was overturned, causing damage to two cars in October of 1944. The accident was caused by a combination of the motor stalling, the malfunction of the airbrakes and another vehicle which blocked its safe passage. The 61.9-foot fishing trawler, the "Hustler, " was successfully launched by Western Boat in June of 1945. As the poem written in her honor states, she has just slid down the ways. The Tacoma city skyline can be seen in the background. The ship's owner was R. Tom Muchlinski and she carried a crew of six. After completion, the "Hustler" was bound for Ketchikan, Alaska. Shortly after being placed in service, she was taken over by the U.S. government.

Sea Boy launching. Puget Sound Boatbuilding Corp. launched the 85- ft. sardine boat, "Sea Boy," into the City Waterway on July 1, 1944. Many gathered to view the impressive sight.
