The dolls were donated to the Afifi Temple in Tacoma by the Dragons Oasis Shriner Club of Tientsin, China for distribution to crippled children in Shriner Hospitals. Exhibit illuminated by two ornate Chinese-style hanging lights.

ca. 1934. Afifi Shrine Parade circa 1934. The Shriners are shown marching in procession up So. 13th Street to Broadway. At the back of the picture is the Tacoma Railway & Power Co. at 1301 A St., built in 1899. The cable car tracks run down the center of So. 13th Street. A streetcar can be seen crossing 13th on Pacific Ave. The Shriners in their traditional garb appear to be marching up Pacific Ave to turn on 13th & proceed to Broadway. The Mecca Restaurant can be seen on the left at 1150-54 Commerce. Across the street from the Mecca is the tailoring business of John Davis with signage jutting out of the building. Mr. Davis was also in law enforcement. The sign for Knapp's Modern Business College (located at 1151 1/2 Broadway) can be seen at the roofline of the far left building. DeMolay Eleventh Annual Conclave, held in Tacoma in August of 1935. A parade was held on August 31st, participating in the parade were 7 DeMolay patrols, 25 floats, the Shrine Band and Patrol and the Tacoma Rainbow Girls. Eleventh Annual Conclave of the Order of DeMolay, held in Tacoma in August of 1935. Over 800 members of the organization assembled for the convention. One of the highlights was the parade held on August 31st. A group of young men wearing white uniforms was photographed parading up 13th Street in Tacoma. From the appearance of the uniforms, this appears to be the Bremerton chapter of DeMolay. The Mecca restaurant and tavern and Knapp College are in buildings on left.

Knights Templar parade. Knights Templar dressed in regalia march south from 9th Street on Pacific Avenue. They were part of a May 11, 1936 parade in downtown Tacoma marking the opening session of the 49th Annual Conclave of the Grand Commandery Knights Templar of Washington. Greek picnic held by the Order of Ahepa and its affiliated organizations, the Maids of Athens and Sons of Pericles, at Five Mile Lake. Group of men dancing outdoors in a circle. The Order of Ahepa, a national society of Americans of Greek descent, was holding its annual district convention in Tacoma at the Hotel Winthrop. Over 1500 delegates attended. Thousands of spectators lined the Lake Washington Ship Channel as the Afifi Temple of Tacoma float was towed by during the Shriners Marine Pageant in Seattle 7/10/1936. A huge barge carrying members of the Afifi Temple Band and a large replica of Mount Rainier is pictured just after it passes the draw of the Montlake Bridge in this night scene.The float, designed by Walt Sutter, featured thousands of gallons of water pouring down from an imitation Narada Falls. In March of 1937, Lillian Morey, left, and Laura Ellis were ably handling the publicity for the one of the most anticipated society events for the younger set in Bremerton, the Rainbow Girl-DeMolay ball held at the end of March. On June 5, 1937, over 1,000 Shriners gathered in Tacoma for a spring reunion. They kicked off the get together with a parade. A long line of Shriners waited behind their drill leader for the parade to begin. Winthrop Hotel and Roxy theater on Broadway are in background.

Five of the oldest members of the Tacoma Elks Club gather to discuss the Good Old Days on Old Timers' night held in January of 1938. They are, left to right, S.J. Maxwell, member #2, whose career was in shipping; George L. Palmer, in the printing business and served once as Deputy Sheriff; S.A. Perkins, member #3, newspaper publishing; Major Charles O. Bates, law; and Calvin S. Heilig, member #1, theater owner in Tacoma and Portland. "Sam" Perkins served as master of ceremonies at the meeting where many memories were shared and enjoyed. (T.
