Associated Oil Service Stations. Eldred J. Omundson and Paul L. Crosby operated the Associated station at 3102 South 12th Street. The station features the "Flying A" neon sign over its distinctive concentric rings on top of the station. The station featured Aero batteries and Federal tires. A sign affixed to a light pole in the parking area reminds customers of the Community Chest drive. The lot is fenced and two automobiles are parked near the station. TPL-1886

Associated Oil Service Stations. Charlie Walker's Associated Service, station #634. Walker's Associated Service stands at the corner of 56th and Pacific Avenue. Cosmic Cleaners is next door at 5433 Pacific Avenue and Kempinsky's Bi-Rite Drugs is at 5431 Pacific Avenue. An older automobile is parked next to the station while another sits ready for filling. The Associated Oil Service Stations at 5525 Pacific Ave., station #634, was known as Charlie Walker's Associated Service Station in 1948 when this photograph was taken. This distinctive looking station was built in 1934 for Emil Muscek. It was designed by A. Gordon Lumm following the architectural ideas presented at the Century of Progress. Walker's Associated Service Station closed in the late '60s. TPL-1887

New Shell Station at 6th and Mason, Shell Oil Co., Mr. Holm. This customer of the new Shell service station is definitely King with at least nine service attendants servicing his car. They are polishing his windshield, cleaning the headlights, cleaning out the back seat and pumping the gas. The attendants wear matching uniforms with dark jackets, light pants and white caps. The most service you would usually receive would be up to two attendants: possibly one to wash the windshield while the other pumped the gasoline.

A daytime view of the new service station was taken on April 29, 1948 from street level showing the two garage doors open, banners flying and the two gasoline pumps with "Shell" signs, shaped like shells, on top. July 3, 1947, saw the opening of Cliff Anderson's new Chevron gas station in Spanaway. The station had two gas pumps and a one-bay compartment for vehicle maintenance and repair. Its address was not provided. (scan of original negative, no print on file)

Standard Oil Company. A view of Clarkson's Chevron Station at night. An automobile is seen in the service area on a hoist. The station advertises Atlas Batteries, Chevron Supreme Gasoline, and lubrication and washing services. A large Coca-Cola cooler sits outside the garage doors. It was apparently the first Chevron station built in Washington State after WWII. The station eventually closed after the I-5 freeway was completed; it was reopened in 1961 as Gene's Richfield Service. Standard Oil Co. started doing business in Western Washington in 1886. They were shipping oil from Cleveland, Ohio to Tacoma in box and tank railroad cars. They have consistently grown and expanded and have new offices in the Tacoma Tideflats area. View of new Standard Oil service station located at 9212 South Tacoma Way. It was purchased by Gene L. Myers in 1961 and is still owned by him in 2003. The business is now Gene's Towing.

This was how Buck Morgan & Son's Autotorium at 632 Broadway appeared in June of 1946. The station was located at the corner of 7th and Broadway, across the street from the Elks Temple. The one-stop service and repair station was owned and operated by William "Buck" Morgan and his son Jack W. Morgan. "Buck," who had over 20 years in the automobile repair business, ran the repair shop. They specialized in Buick repair, since "Buck" had spent the previous 16 years working at Mueller-Harkins. Aside from the repair business, they also offered fuel and auto supplies and did lubrication, washing, polishing, storage and parking of automobiles. The second floor was a parking garage accessible by the alley between St. Helens & Broadway. The building at 632 Broadway was sold in the late 1960s and "Buck" Morgan retired. Jack Morgan continued in the automobile business, selling Buicks instead of servicing them. (TNT 12/1/1946, pg. Valley Forge Service Station, believed to be located in Fife. The service station offered Standard Oil products and did automobile repairs. According to additional information provided by a reader, the Valley Forge was believed to have been located near the intersection of Hwy 99 and 54th Ave., across the street and east of the Poodle Dog Restaurant. The Oakwood Dairy, whose delivery truck is parked outside the service station, was located near the intersection of 54th Ave. and 20th St. (Milton Ave.) at the time of this September, 1945, photograph.
