The Central Board was a group of students vested with the responsibility of appointing committee heads, supervising the control of ASCPS finances, choosing publication heads and planning special campus events. The board was comprised of representatives of each class, editors of the Trail and Tamanawas, department managers of forensics, men's and women's intramural, music and dramatics, elected officers of ASCPS, and three faculty advisors. College of Puget Sound. Three male college students, members of the Intercollegiate Knight National Service Fraternity, are cleaning an attic. One of them is dismanteling what looks like a bed frame, and the other two are mopping the floor. Old furniture, roll-up blinds and other items are still piled up around them. The walls are finished in wooden planks. This group participated in the year-round activities of the college and undertook two major spring projects: remodeling the out-dated bulletin boards at Jones Hall and the procurement of a chapter room. Several interiors at CPS, Murtough Supply, Frank Murtough. Murtough Supply Company, owned by Frank J. Murtough, handled cleaning supplies and equipment and were distributors of Franklin's R.G. Products, Clarke & Finnell Floor Machines and Multi-Clean Vacuums. They were located at 706 Pacific Avenue. This interior view features an open hallway with seating, an elaborately carved side table, a portrait of a man wearing academic robes, and a grandfather clock. Draperies are closed over the windows. College of Puget Sound Homecoming play "Night of January 16th" by Ayn Rand. Popular play with a "hook"; the jury was selected from the audience before each performance and asked to find the accused guilty or not guilty of murder at the end of the staged trial.

Pacific Lutheran's Choir of the West participated in many concerts throughout the Pacific Northwest, but they also had countless radio performances, broadcasted over KOMO radio in Seattle. The exterior of "Old Main" at Pacific Lutheran College (later University) has been cleaned of ivy in 1950. In other years the administration building was covered thickly with ivy. Pacific Lutheran University was founded in 1890 by a group of mostly Norwegian Lutherans from the Puget Sound area. They were led by the Reverend Bjug Harstad, who became PLU's first president. Although founded as a university, the institution functioned primarily as an academy until 1918, when it closed for two years. It reopened as the two-year Pacific Lutheran College, after merging with Collumbia College, previously located in Everett. Spokane College merged with PLC in 1929. Four-year baccalaureate degrees were first offered in education in 1939 and in the liberal arts in 1941. TPL-9332

A record 228 students graduated in the class of 1950 at Pacific Lutheran College. They pose on the steps of Old Main. Dr. Harry K Newburn, president of the University of Oregon, spoke on the subject of "The Uncommon Man". That could describe the person with a college diploma in 1950. Only slightly over 5 per cent of the nation's population 25 years of age and over had college degrees. Names were listed in the Tacoma News Tribune, 5/25/1950, p. 3. (TNT, 5/30/1950, p.1)

The choir at Pacific Lutheran College, directed by Gunnar J. Malmin, would be giving its annual pre-tour Tacoma concert at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. College of Puget Sound 1951 graduating class. 285 graduates received degrees June 3, 1951, during the ceremony in the field house. Dr. R. Franklin Thompson, president of the college conferred the degrees. Dr. Robert E. Burns spoke to the granduates on "World Unity, But How?". 1951 construction work on the exterior of the new chapel-music-speech building at Pacific Lutheran College. Brick veneer is being laid by men working from scaffolding. Scaffolding is still in place around a steeple that has been added above the roof. Architect John Richards explained that the design of the rooms in the building were unusual. The walls and ceilings were not true, or straight. The ceiling in some rooms slanted up, in others it slanted down. The same was true of the walls. The purpose of this was to break up the reverberation of sound waves. (TNT, 7/22/1951, p.C-12)

Men are smoothing on one of the three layers of plaster on the ceiling and high along one of the walls in the new chapel-music-speech building at Pacific Lutheran College in July of 1951. Acoustical plaster was used on two walls of each room, above the dado, or wainscoating; and on a strip across the middle of the ceiling. The structure incorporated the latest engineering features designed to cut noise to a minimum. Students in one of the seventeen 6-foot by 10-foot practice rooms should seldom hear sounds coming from practice rooms on either side of them. The building also had seven studios, a band room, choir room and radio studio. (TNT, 7/22/1951, p.C-12)

On July 19, 1951, workmen were cutting and installing one-inch blankets of insulation in the band room at the new chapel-music-speech building at Pacific Lutheran College. The J-M system of sound isolation was being used to control sound waves which are transmitted by structural vibration. Light weight and specially constructed floors, walls and ceilings were entirely divorced from the building structure by means of felted isolators. The floating interior had no rigid contact with the outer solid structure of the building. The felt cushioned isolators took up the sound impulses which otherwise would be transmitted throughout the structure. (TNT, 7/22/1951, p.C-12)
