March, 1936, portrait of Dr. Edward H. and Mrs. Florence Todd in their home at 1604 No. Alder. Dr. Todd served as president of the College of Puget Sound for 29 years, from 1913 to 1942. Prior to becoming associated with educational work of the Methodist Church, Dr. Todd was a minister of that denomination for 19 years. The men's dormitory at the college was named after Dr. Todd when it was built in 1948. (T. Times 3/28/1936, pg. 7)

Dr. Todd was president at C.P.S. for 29 years before being succeeded by Dr. R. Franklin Thompson. Pacific Lutheran College President O.A. Tingelstad poses with the Swedish granite cornerstone for the new library building at the October 23, 1937 cornerstone laying ceremony. The cornerstone laying ceremony of the new library building on the Pacific Lutheran College campus took place on Saturday, October 23, 1937. A crowd gathered around the partially completed brick building to listen to the college's "Choir of the West." At this time, the school had an enrollment of 700 and was a Christian Junior College and Normal School headed by Dr. O.A. Tingelstad. This building was replaced in 1967 by the Mortvedt Library; it was remodeled and is now known as Xavier Hall. (T.Times 10/25/1937, pg. 3)

The cornerstone laying for the new library structure at Pacific Lutheran College on October 23, 1937. A group of 20 notables pose for a portrait beside the building on the speakers' platform. Building design by Emanuel J. Bresemann, Architect, and the architectural firm of Heath, Gove and Bell. It was built for $104,000 debt free and was dedicated in 1939. A ground breaking ceremony for new women's dormitory at the College of Puget Sound was held on February 16, 1938. A large crowd of students and reporters gather in the open field in anticipation of the event. One year later in February of 1939, Anderson Hall was dedicated. (T.Times, 2/16/1938, p. 1)

Govenor Clarence D. Martin shakes hands with President Edward H. Todd of the College of Puget Sound during the school's 50th annual convocation. Sponsored by Judge O.G. Ellis, Governor Martin received an honorary doctor of laws degree. Douglas Stanley of New York and Professor Trevor Kincaid of the University of Washington also were awarded honorary degrees. Young men from the College of Puget Sound razz a fellow classmate during the first annual C.P.S. picnic held on April 28, 1938. Classes were dismissed early and students poured out on to the grounds to enjoy the annual freshman vs. sophomore tug-of-war, as well as two hours of games. Following a luncheon served by SPURS, the women's service organization, there was a mass community sing and two hours of dancing. (T. Times 4/29/1938, p. 1).
