--A Light Fantastic Trip--
Motorists who travel on Interstate 5 during night and early morning hours have noticed something new in addition to a concrete barrier separating the north and southbound lanes between Tacoma and Ft. Lewis. A major portion of the project includes the installation of a powerful lighting system. Persons who have driven past the new lights say they are so bright that headlights are hardly needed

Re-'sign'-ed atmosphere
The sign stood battered and worn, much like Vice President Spiro T. Agnew, who resigned Wednesday. The weather too was significant of the mood, as residents of the small Clallam County community reflected on Agnew.

--High-rise Curb Splits Interstate 5--
Work on a concrete divider strip separating the northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 5 has progressed from North Ft. Lewis to 56th Street in Tacoma. The project will be complete when the divider is in place all the way to the Puyallup River bridge. Most of the divider is made of pre-cast concrete, although some sections are poured on the spot. The project also includes illumination in some spots. Division of the freeway adds up to a $2,320,000 contract for Woodworth & Co., Inc., of Tacoma.

A Native American girl was arrested along with forty other indigenous people during a second confrontation with police following a fire on a railroad bridge near a Puyallup Tribal fishing camp. The fire started after police and state officers raided the fishing camp earlier that morning, arresting twenty people. Police later returned to the camp with fire units and arrested everyone at the fishing camp. The camp was established by Puyallup tribal members to advocate for fishing rights and indigenous people from across the United States joined their protest. Picture taken by Tribune staff member Wayne Zimmerman.
