Washington School 4th grade girls posed in front of the school in June of 1931. The girls are all attired alike in white blouses, dark shorts and berets. They wear what may be tap or dance shoes. The three in the front are in a dance pose. (Argentum)

Washington School 6A Class in June of 1931. Building designed by Frederick Heath, Architect, 1906. The historic northend school was named after George Washington. The woman on the right is believed to be Mrs. Jennie French, principal from 1926-41. (Argentum)

Willard School 6A Class. Willard School was built in 1899 and it was the first Tacoma school to honor a woman. It was named in honor of national suffrage and temperance leader Frances E. Willard. The school at this location was demolished after the 1949 earthquake. (Argentum)

On August 20, 1933 the members of Tacoma's Polish community gathered together at the Polish Hall, 1650 E. 30th St., to celebrate the 43rd anniversary of the founding of the Polish national Alliance and the early Polish migration to Tacoma. The celebration was organized by Walter Danisjewski, who was president of both the Polish American Citizens' Club and the Polish National Alliance No. 156. Mr. Danisjewski declared that the picnic would honor Steve Maciejewski and the early Polish settlers who founded the first Polish Roman Catholic parish in Washington state in 1892 in Tacoma. Cle Elum Ballteam meets Aberdeen Ballteam at Polish National Alliance No. 156 Picnic- Aug. 20th, 1933- Tacoma. During one of Helen McAnally's famous beach parties, held Sept. 4th-6th 1931 at her Magnolia Beach summer home on Vashon Island, Mrs. McAnally (believed to be seated front left) and some of her guests posed for this picture. Mrs. McAnally's large cottage was located on Lot 3, Magnolia Beach. She was the widow of Tacoma attorney Sam McAnally and a nationally recognized hostess. The rich, artistic and famous in those preflight days would travel by train from New York to Seattle or Tacoma and then by boat to the island. She continued to hold parties, usually lasting several days, until she was in the eighties. ("Magnolia Beach Memories" by Bob Gordon Sr.)
