ca. 1979. The Moorehavens Inc. Nursing Homes, circa 1979, at 1748 Jefferson Ave. Also known as the Jefferson House Nursing Home. The structure was built in 1945 as the Jefferson Center War Housing Project. The dormitory was of masonry construction due to the wartime shortage of lumber and was completed shortly before the end of the war. The building has been demolished.

ca. 1979. South 19th St., circa 1979; looking up the hill past the railroad tracks on the left are the Tioga Building (1901 Jefferson) and the Swiss Hall (1902-04 Jefferson.) In 1995, South 19th St. between Pacific and Jefferson was closed to traffic and made part of the University of Washington, Tacoma campus. It is the site of the school's grand staircase.

South 19th Street between Pacific and Jefferson was closed to traffic and the 1931 era Art Deco Shaub-Ellison building was demolished in 1995 to make way for the University of Washington - Tacoma Campus. In the background are, left to right, 1908 Pacific- home in 1979 to American Plumbing & Supply Co., now part of the UWT campus; Harmon pedestrian bridge over Commerce St. connected to the Harmon Warehouse, 1949 So. ca. 1979. Back of the Jefferson House Nursing Home, at 1748 Jefferson Ave. The structure was built in 1945 as the Jefferson Center War Housing Project. It was designed by the Tacoma Architects Association with Ernest Mock serving as supervising architect. It was completed just before the end of the war.

The Washington Plaza Building at 24 stories was Tacoma's tallest building.
