Pacific Lutheran College was dedicating their new $200,000 science hall in October of 1947. Dr. Conrad Bergendoff, President of Augustana College and Seminary at Rock Island, Illinois, was the guest speaker. More than 1,200 people attended the dedication ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Nicholson Bogue stand at the altar facing towards the back of the Asbury Methodist Church. They were married June 7, 1948, with Reverend Harry L. Allen officiating in the presence of 250 guests. Arnold wears a double-breasted tuxedo with black bow-tie. His new bride, the former Ella Louise Kipper, wears a formal wedding gown in the colonial style of heavy irovy satin with illusion yoke and train embellished with lace Bertha. Ella's veil is also edged with the same lace and it flows from a beaded tiara. Her bouquet of Ophelia roses and stephanotis has many ribbons cascading from it. The largest apprentice class was graduating from Tacoma Vocational School, 142 students had successfully completed their vocational programs, 50% of the students had taken an automotive mechanics course. The Daffodil Parade proved to be a great success and lived up to its pre-war standard of excellence. The 10th annual 1946 Daffodil parade in Puyallup drew one of the largest crowds in parade history. The estimated crowd of 30,000 was three times Puyallup's population. Many Pierce County businesses, organizations and schools signed up to appear in the parade. View of Order of Rainbow Club float covered in daffodils. The coronation took place at Guill Hall in Sumner at the Sumner VFW sponsored ball. The three day event began with the coronation and would end with the annual sailboat races.

A delegation of 22 business leaders from Honolulu visited the Pacific Northwest in August of 1947 to help foster trade - and support for statehood for their territory. The Tacoma Chamber of Commerce arranged a full schedule of activities for the visiting business men including a trip to the Carstens Packing Company on the tideflats where they were given a ride in Carstens' horse-drawn meat wagon. Some of the staff stood on the roof of the loading dock to get a look at the festivities. The delegation went on from Tacoma to visit Mount Rainier and Olympia. (T.Times, 8/9/1947, p.1) TPL-9602

Daffodil Queen and Princesses, Times, Sandy. Marcia Keefe, 16-year-old junior from Lincoln High School, was chosen to be one of the two princesses of the Puyallup Valley Daffodil Festival for 1949. She is pictured above, carrying a large bouquet of daffodils, with the other 22 Lincoln contestants whose names are listed in a News Tribune article dated February 13, 1949. Marcia, the daughter of the R.E. Keefes of 1676 So. 40th St., saw nursing in her future after completing her education. Mary Jean Gropper of Puyallup was selected as queen of the festival. This year's Daffodil Festival was being called "the most successful of all daffodil celebrations". The 16th Annual Puyallup Valley Daffodil Festival was one of the best ever; the weather was about 71 degrees, making it one of the warmest daffodil weekends ever. Ed Miller, President of Miller Construction Company, Inc. was one of the founders of the Homebuilders' Association of Tacoma. This organization was affiliated with the National Association of Homebuilders of the United States; the group promoted better values in homes, developed efficiency in the homebuilding industry, and they continuously promoted long-range plans to expand further building developments in this area (T.N.T., 4/26/49, p. 22).
