College of Puget Sound was first established by the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1888 as the Puget Sound University, the school is no longer affiliated with the Methodist Church. Student enrollment had increased and the school was also participating in the post war boom and development. New buildings were built and student activities and celebrations were at an all time high. CPS annual. A view of the Loggers baseball team in the dug out. Coaching CPS baseball in its second post war season was Luther "Red" Harvel, a local business man. Harvel was formerly with the Tacoma Tigers. One young man is reviewing materials from a notebook. College of Puget Sound students were helping place nine brass plaques bearing the name of one of the fraternities and sororities, which have been active for the past twenty five years. The plaques are being placed by the Student Union Building. The students and college administrators participated in a special dedication just prior to the cement being poured. An All-Methodist rally was being held at College of Puget Sound in late July of 1948. Bishop and Mrs. Gerald H. Kennedy would also be welcomed at that time. College of Puget Sound 1951 graduating class. 285 graduates received degrees June 3, 1951, during the ceremony in the field house. Dr. R. Franklin Thompson, president of the college conferred the degrees. Dr. Robert E. Burns spoke to the granduates on "World Unity, But How?". A model home, the "Tacoman," was built adjoining the College of Puget Sound fieldhouse for the fourth annual Tacoma Home Show. Quite wide sills have been provided for the doors and many windows on the model home. Ordered by St. Paul & Tacoma Lumber Company to show the use of their building materials.

In February of 1952, representatives from the Tacoma Master Builders posed outside the model home, the "Tacoman," that was built by Jardeen Brothers for the fourth annual Tacoma Home Show. It was built on a lot adjoining the College of Puget Sound fieldhouse. The Master Builders were sponsors of the home show and suppliers of materials for the model home. The "Tacoman" was to be complete in every detail. Builders, designers, architects and suppliers within the organization contributed suggestions for items to be included in the home's design. Mrs. Robert Hyde directs the attention of Mrs. Lucille and Dr. R. Franklin Thompson to the painting entitled "Carnival", on loan to the exhibition at the College of Puget Sound. Dr. Thompson was the president of C.P.S. He and his wife were on hand to attend the Tacoma Art League's preview on October 3, 1950, of an exhibit featuring the work of two local artists, Mrs.Vera Fraser and Nelson Sears. Dr. Thompson became President of C.P.S in 1942 and served as president for 30 years.(TNT 10-8-50, p. D-4)

The fourteen student members of the College of Puget Sound Choral Readers perform in recital in Jones Hall Auditorium. The group, under the direction of Martha Pearl Jones, performed a diversified program of ensemble verse readings. Booth at the second annual Greater Tacoma Home Show for Holroyd Co., 5047 So. Washington, manufacturers of concrete masonry units. The shelves at the back of the exhibit hold Holroyd concrete blocks in many shapes and forms that are used for construction. At either side of the booth, tables are set up with photographs of homes and construction sites utilizing the masonry units and forms for goers to request further information. The focal point of the display is a masonry fireplace.

Tacoma Seed Company's exhibit booth at the spring flower show, part of the Daffodil Festival, at the College of Puget Sound fieldhouse March 31- April 2, 1950. The booth displayed gardening products by Miller Products Co. of Portland, Oregon, including insecticides, fertilizers, fungicides and weed killers. The display also featured Scotts Lawn and Vigoro plant food, as well as manual push lawn mowers. The show included commercial exhibits such as this one and competitive horticulture and flower arranging exhibits. Both garden club members and the general public were invited to compete for the blue ribbons. A profusion of spring flowers decorated the fieldhouse and floral wall hangings were prepared by the garden clubs. Entertainment was supplied by local choirs and bands. Booth at the second annual Greater Tacoma Home Show for Kirby Co. of Tacoma, 3521 6th Ave., electric vacuum cleaner sales and service. The booth features floor polishing equipment and products as well as vacuums. Prominently displayed is the Kirby sanitation system that has eight complete units: demother, suds sprayer, mattress cleaner, rug cleaner, floor duster, floor polisher and "handi butler." A drawing was held to give away a free Kirby. The company persuaded home show goers to purchase by telling them that "your home deserves a Kirby."
