The E. Gundersons are shown relaxing and reading in the living room of their Monte Vista Court trailer home in October, 1951. Mrs. Gunderson is perusing Screen Stories magazine while retired Army sergeant Gunderson turns the pages of his book. Their cat "Bluff" reclines in its bed. The living room is well ventilated with several windows, complete with blinds and curtains. There is room for a large sofa and several chairs on the carpeted floor. Retired sergeant E. Gunderson hands a potted plant to his wife outside their home at the Monte Vista Trailer Park on October 25, 1951. A white picket fence surrounds the Gunderson home and the trailer rests on a cement pad. A patio is covered by a large awning which provides shade along the side of the trailer. There appears to be a small fuel tank in the backyard. The Monte Vista Trailer Park was located at 8328 South Tacoma Way just across the street from the Star-Lite Theater. The kitchen appears compact but is arranged to have space for a walled-in Frigidaire refrigerator, Dixie stove, and large sink. The door and wall between the indoor recreation room and the outdoors has been moved completely out of the way to connect the two areas. Woven grass screens have been pulled open to show the interior. Wicker furniture has been chosen to retain the outdoor feeling. A barbeque grill has been added to the fireplace area along the left wall. The stone pavement from the outside has been continued into the interior.

A two-story home is shown from the lower level that has an outside door from the basement built into the sloping property. The exterior of the home has been painted a light color and an arbor that has been built across the entire back of the house is painted a dark color. This house at the corner of North 27th and Tyler was built in 1907 not as a private residence but as a grocery store. From 1908 through 1918 it was the Andrew Larson Grocery. In 1919 the store was taken over by Boe Pederson. Shortly after that, Mr. Pederson opened a grocery at 313 So. 9th. He remodeled his store at 4202 No. 27th into a single family home. This photograph was taken in February of 1951. TPL-9485

Exposure to show the rain damage at the residence of Mrs. Pearl E. Richards, 103 East Road. Tacoma's worst rainstorm in almost 30 years began at 6 p.m. on Feb. 8, 1951. Between 6 p.m. Thursday and 6 p.m. Friday, 3.12 inches of rain fell; the heaviest since 1921. Damage was reported throughout the city and county, mostly due to landslides and flooding. Salmon Beach was evacuated and portions of Portland Ave. and Marine View Dr. were closed due to washout. Loss topped several hundred thousand dollars. Mrs. Richards was the widow of Paul Richards and the mother of photographers Turner, Bob, Ed and Nelson Richards. (TNT 2/9/1951 pg.1, TNT 2/10/1951 pg. 1)

Tacoma's worst rainstorm in 30 years began at 6 p.m. on 2/8/1951, and devastated the city of Tacoma and Pierce County causing several hundred thousand dollars of damage. Progress photograph of the American Apartments, later opened as the Vista Manor Apartments, at 319 Tacoma Ave. No., for the Douglas Fir Plywood Association. The building was designed by Lance, McGuire & Muri, Architects, and built by the C.F. Davidson Construction Company. The building was constructed with 16 stories and 133 units at a cost of one million dollars.

Exterior of the snow-dusted home of William J. and Eva B. Parker. The three-story, Spanish-style house with a tile roof and stucco exterior was built in 1928 for James L. Garvin. A Mercury or Hudson automobile is parked on the other side of the street. William J. Parker was president of Parker Paint Manufacturing Company.

This possibly could be the front entrance to the Dennis Slenning residence at 1215 North Alder Street. The house has a contemporary look to it; very simplistic in style and lines. The building evidently had many windows, including three corner windows at the front entrance and three miniature openings in the wooden door.

Exterior view of one story unit. It is unclear whether this is the front or back entrance to the residence. Style is contemporary with slightly sloping roofline. Light colored masonry to the side of the door may be an outdoor barbecue. There is apparently a basement as small windows can barely be seen ground level.

This is possibly the residence of Dennis Slenning, manager of the Oregon-Washington Plywood Company. According to the 1949 city directory, he and his family resided at 1215 North Alder. This contemporary style home was built with many picture windows. It had both a covered patio and a deck for entertaining.

This appears to be the back entrance to a duplex which may have been recently constructed at 2512 No. McCarver Street. View shows chimney and screened back door. Also in photograph, which was taken on September 13, 1950, is roof overhang which connects the two buildings.

Exterior exposure of house on 3732 East "I". This photograph was commissioned by Alpro Roofing Company, 1502 South Tacoma Way. This bungalow-style home was located possibly at 3732 East "I". It featured a wide pitched roof, covered porch with partial brick columns, and low, broad, horizontal lines.

A chimney and dormers are present on this sprawling wooden structure. The location is unknown; it could possibly be in a park-like environment.

Exposure of house at 4551 Sixth Avenue. This exterior view of the home located at 4551 Sixth Avenue was taken on July 11, 1950. It was the residence of Thomas T. and Belle B. Richmond. Built in 1927, this Tudor-style home had a steeply pitched roof and arched doorways and windows. There was a small balcony built above a side entry which overlooked the yard's many bushes and shrubs. The daylight photograph of this three story Craftsman-style apartment house was commissioned by Blair Construction Co.

House being lowered on barge for 4th of July show. A house is being carefully lowered by crane onto a barge at the Port of Tacoma and will be towed to Commencement Bay. As the sign on the old wood framed house proclaims, it will be set afire on the evening of the 4th of July as part of the Tacoma Athletic Commission's Big Free Show. The City Fireboat will be present to extinguish the flames.

Drawers with an open storage area on top have been fitted into one of the areas left by the sloping roof-line. A window has been placed along the far wall.
