Booth at the second annual Greater Tacoma Home Show for Zingler Electric Co., 1112 Pacific Ave. The Home Show took place March 21-26, 1950 at the College of Puget Sound fieldhouse. This shot shows the latest in electric appliances- cabinet style sewing machines, an automatic wringer washer, new ranges and Frigidaire refrigerators. The electric sewing machine retailed for $89.95 at Zingler, $9 down and $5 per month.

Dale Carnegie banquet at the New Yorker, 1501 Sixth Ave. The Dale Carnegie course in public speaking was taught at Knapp business College at 114 So. 10th at the corner of Pacific Ave. In 1950 Knapp College, "The school where futures are formed", had been in operation in Tacoma 25 years. In addition to the Dale Carnegie course, they offered training in the fields of stenography, secretarial skills, accounting, tax preparation, business mathematics and law, and the operation of business machines.

Booth at the second annual Greater Tacoma Home Show featuring natural gas appliances, such as ranges, hot water heaters, and space heaters, distributed by Home Gas Co, 140th and Pacific Ave. in Tacoma. The exhibit also sponsored a natural gas cooking demonstration, using propane, on Wedgewood and Tappan ranges of "biskit mix" biscuits topped with "Marva-Lishus" raspberry syrup, with samples provided for hungry show attendees. Raspberry syrup was provided by the Farmers Union Berry Coop of Puyallup.

Booth at the second annual Greater Tacoma Home Show featuring Heatlox heatcolumn- an oil burning pressure type furnace. Heatlox Furnaces Inc. was located in Tacoma at 4320 So. Tacoma Way. A new product in 1950, the heatcolumn was advertised as " The talk of the town." The FHA approved furnace had combustion chamber housing with double wall construction, demonstrated by the cutouts in the display model. The furnace also had a Brundage blower unit with replaceable filters, Honeywell controls, ventilated air spaces and an extra heavy gauge heat exchanger for long life. It sold for $549.00 installed, with convenient monthly payments of $14.95.

Booth at the second annual Greater Tacoma Home Show by Coastal Builders, 3030 River Road in Tacoma, manufacturers of Keystone windows and doors. Keystone manufactured an aluminum combination storm and screen window and door. By 1950, over 4,000,000 were in use. Keystone stopped drafts, saved fuel and eliminated the need for weatherstripping. In addition, they were built to last a lifetime.

Homeowners could now enjoy the peace and quiet of their heated home with silent operation, hot air pipes running under the floor and return air requiring no additional piping.

Studio portrait- wedding pictures- Miss Edna Williams, soon to be Mrs. Gus Martigopoulos. For her March 11, 1950 wedding, the bride wore an off white jersey suit with balenciago accessories. Her corsage was a green orchid. Miss Pat Stewart, in a green suit, was maid of honor and Harry Martigopoulos was best man for his brother. The couple made their first home in Portland. Staff Sgt. and Mrs. Gus Martigopoulos who were married in Tacoma on the morning of March 11, 1950 at the Greek Orthodox church. Mrs. Martigopoulos, the former Edna Williams, was the daughter of Mrs. Edna Williams of Lubbock, Texas. The reception was held in the home of the bridegroom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Martigopoulos. Gaily decorated box lunches for two are auctioned off at the annual old fashioned Box Lunch Social in the main lounge of the Student Union building at Pacific Lutheran College. The event where coeds prepare elaborately designed containers with meals to be purchased by and consumed with the highest collegiate bidder was sponsored by the Lutheran Students Association with proceeds going to charity.

Miss Jade Sang and Herbert Lim were married April 28, 1951, in the Burnham chapel of the First Baptist Church. Miss Sang was the daughter of Charley and Agnes Sang and was a graduate of St. Leo's High School. Herbert Lim was the son of Gordon and the late Mrs. Lim, of Vancouver, B.C., and he had served in the Royal Canadian Air Force in Burma and India as a paratrooper. Miss Lenna Sang was her sister's maid of honor. George Chong was the best man. The bride and groom pose with their parents and the bride's attendant. Microsoft mogul Bill Gates' parents' wedding. William Henry Gates Jr. and Mary Maxwell married May 11, 1951 in Seattle. The photo shows the couple in an automobile leaving after the ceremony and reception. Both of Gates' parents can trace their Northwest roots back to the late 1800's. Bill Jr. grew up in Bremerton, the son of a prosperous local merchant, served as a Second Lieutenant in WW II and returned after the war to complete his undergraduate work at the University of Washington and enter law school. There he met Mary Maxwell, an energetic and high spirited athlete and sorority girl nicknamed "Giggles" by her friends. The wedding of Shirley Claire Fields and Jack Schneidermann in the Wedgewood Room at the Winthrop Hotel. A single ring ceremony was performed by Rabbi Bernard Roseberg under a canopy of white stock and greens flanked by candelabra. The bride, the daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Hyman S. Fields, wore an ivory satin gown with a yoke of net and venice lace with a long train and an illusion veil. She carried a bouquet of orchids and stephanotis. The groom was from Coos Bay, Oregon and was the son of Mrs. David Schneidermann. The matron of honor was the recently married Mrs. Alvin L. Fields, sister-in-law of the bride, who wore the same bridal gown at her wedding. The Junior Bridesmaid was Dorothy Fields and the Bridesmaids were Helen Gold, Mona Kleiner and Nancy Brown. The Best Man was Harold Schneidermann. The bride was a graduate of Stadium High School and received her degree in Sociology from the University of California at Berkeley and the University of Washington. She was a member of Alpha Epsilon Phi. The groom was a Business Administration graduate from the University of Oregon and a member of Sigma Alpha Mu.
