Boy Scouts, Sea Scouts and adult leaders off to the National Scout Jamboree in Washington D.C., June 30th to July 9th, 1937. The 17 boys and leaders came from Tacoma, Puyallup, Olympia, Centralia and Chehalis and had the distinction of being the (American continental) Scouts to travel the longest distance to the Jamboree. Boy Scouts, Sea Scouts and adult leaders off to the National Scout Jamboree in Washington D.C., June 30th to July 9th, 1937. The 17 boys and leaders came from Tacoma, Puyallup, Olympia, Centralia and Chehalis. The group left early, and made side trips to Yellowstone, Chicago, Niagara Falls and New York City on their way to the Jamboree, which was expected to draw around 30,000 Scouts. While the scouts were in the national capital, there was a laundry strike. Tacoma dads received telegrams imploring, "Dad, I'm broke. Laundry strike. Send me ten please. Rush." Sam Perkins, left, and G. Herbert Raleigh, members of Tacoma's newest and most exclusive club- the "Tacoma Club," check over the furniture in the club's "lounging room" prior to the Grand Opening the evening of May 10, 1937. The Tacoma Club, located on the top floor of the Washington Building, was organized and incorporated in November, 1936. The original roster of members included leaders in lumber, retailing and manufacturing, banking, real estate, medical, and legal fields. S.A. "Sam" Perkins, newspaper publisher, was one of the first presidents of the club. George Herbert Raleigh was the manager of the Bank of California in 1937. The White Clover Chapter of Eastern Star held their 59th installation of new officers at the South Tacoma Masonic Temple in March 1952. Dora E. (Mrs. H.J.) O'Connor, past matron, gave the welcome and Mrs. Lloyd Dorfner and Marley Parker, retiring worth matron and patron, presided. A capacity crowd attended Jack Lacy's Sales Clinic at the College of Puget Sound that was presented by the Tacoma Sales Executive Club over three evenings. All shows were sold out days ahead of the lectures. William S. Crean, vice president of Lacey Sales Institute, flew from San Francisco for a three-city itinerary which included Vancouver, B.C., and Seattle, and Tacoma. (TNT, 2/2/1952, p.19)

The Normanna Male Chorus were scheduled for two events in March 1952. The chorus was joined by the Norwegian male choruses of Seattle, Everett, Bellingham and Portland for a concert March 16th in the new chapel-music-speech building at Pacific Lutheran College. March 28th the Normanna Male Chorus presented a minstrel show at Normanna Hall. The Normanna Male Chorus took part in Normanna's first minstrel show. The male chorus changed out of their natty dark jackets and white slacks for blackface makeup for their parts in the show. Members of the Delta, Delta, Delta sorority and their parents attended a banquet at "The Farm" on March 31, 1952. The Tri-Deltas and their guests fill the tables in the dining room. Several of them are wearing large bibs with ruffles around the edges.

ca. 1952. Installation of officers, White Shrine of Jerusalem, for Mrs. A.B. Burnett. The White Shrine is a Christian auxiliary of the Freemasons. It is open to men who have achieved the rank of Master Mason and women related to Master Masons who profess "Belief in the defense of the Christian religion." It was organized in 1894 in Chicago by Charles Magee, a Freemason. Members must be adults, white and non-Jewish. Prior to 1953, members also had to belong to the Order of the Eastern Star.
