The proposed Puyallup Valley Freeway's effect on Puyallup is revealed in the mockup (photo 1) by the State Highways Department. The map shows proposed construction. Except for the section of SR 410 between Fife and Highway 161, the system is scheduled to be operational by late 1971.

--Up, Up Goes the Viaduct--
Rapid progress is being made on the SR 512 viaduct at Puyallup, Joe Michel, assistant project engineer for the State Highway Department, reported Wednesday. The concrete bridge over East Pioneer and Main avenues and the Puyallup River is being erected by Dale M. Madden Construction, Inc., Seattle, under a $1.8 million contract. The west span is going up now and its twin will be constructed under a future contract. (news 06/17/1971)

Indians, Nisqually - 10

Two Nisqually tribal members prepare nets in lower Nisqually River in defiance of state regulations. Nisqually tribal members planned to exercise their right to fish under the Medicine Creek Treaty following a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision which allowed states to regulate off-reservation Native fishing.
