  • Now called the Lake Quinault Lodge, located in Grays Harbor in the Olympic rain forest. The Quinault Lake is 3,729 acres, in the course of the Quinault River, east of Pacific Ocean on the Quinault Indian Reservation. This lake is four miles long with an average width of a mile to a mile and a half. It is used for fishing and recreation. The name is the tribal designation, Kwle-ni-lth or Wi-ni-nlth. In 1787, the river was named by Capt. Charles William Barkley for the Quinault Indian people who lived along the river and at its mouth. circa 1929.

  • Looking across Lake Union towards the Alaska Yukon Pacific Exposition fairgrounds being built on the University of Washington campus. The Manufactures Building, one of the first large exhibition buildings to be constructed at the site, is visible at top right. The Alaska Yukon Pacific Exposition ran from June to October, 1909, after which some- but not many- of the fair buildings were retained for the University. circa 1908.
