The man in the center is Dr. Edward Todd, college president. The college was celebrating its 50th anniversary and beginning a capital improvement campaign, geared at enlarging the campus.

Group portrait of 15-member Madrigal Singers on the campus of the University of Puget Sound, taken on November 18, 1967. KTNT-TV was apparently televising the college students' performance. Each year the Madrigal Singers, under the direction of Dr. Bruce Rodgers, presented a Christmas program for fellow students and the general public. View of elaborate, newly completed $4,000,000 science complex located at the University of Puget Sound. Taking over two years to construct, the complex, named after 26-year-president R. Franklin Thompson, would be dedicated on April 21, 1968. Its Tutor-Gothic style of architecture neatly fit in with the remainder of the campus located in the city's north end. The 74-foot diameter water fountain, located in the Harry Brown Family Quadrangle, could be illuminated at night. President Thompson had led the school into an era of major expansion which included the construction of four dorms, the president's brick home, library, music building, student center, eight men's housing, two women's dorms, Baker (football) Stadium, Kilworth Chapel and McIntyre Hall. University of Puget Sound's Adelphian Choir posed for a formal portrait in the school's Recital Hall on January 5, 1972. The men wore traditional black tuxedos while the women were dressed in floor length gowns of deep coral. This photograph has been retouched with the background nearly eliminated in favor of pure white, a method to better emphasize the singers. In 1947, Harvey Wegner was a senior at College of Puget Sound where he was majoring in Physics and Mathematics. Harvey was a member of the Intercollegiate Knights, Mu Sigma Delta and the American Chemical Society. Harvey, along with another student and a professor at CPS, helped create a "rain making machine." In 1947 Dr. Robert Sprenger, an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the College of Puget Sound, and one of his students developed an invention for seeding clouds. The machine they built would produce rain by introducing a fine invisible smoke of silver iodide particles into the clouds. Left to right, C. L. Members of the advanced choral reading group at the College of Puget Sound presented "An Evening of Poetry" on February 23, 1945 at Jones Hall. Highlights of the varied program included a stirring word picture of an Atlantic sea wind, the adventures of prowling witches and leering goblins on a mystic night, and the battling love life of the "Gingham Dog and Calico Cat". College of Puget Sound remodeled the third floor attic in Jones Hall and refurbished it as their new art studio. Lynn Wentworth, head of the art department, instituted the expansion project. College of Puget Sound provided their students with first hand training in using modern business equipment. The Department of Social Studies offered classes in economics, typing, business administration, business law, sociology, history and political science. Dr. Charles T. Battin, Ph. Todd Hall, College of Puget Sound's men's dormitory, was designed by architects, Sutton, Whitney & Dugan and Mock & Morrison. The ground breaking ceremony was held in July 1946. The cornerstone was laid by Dr. Edward H. Todd, CPS's previous president, the building was named in his honor for his many years of service to the institution. College of Puget Sound Spurs. Fifteen members of the Spurs are wearing their uniforms, white skirts, white blouses and sweaters with the Spurs emblem. The Spurs is a college women's national honorary organization. Members are elected during the spring term of their freshman year by fellow students and initiated into Spurs during fall term of their sophomore year. They are chosen based on personality, scholarship, leadership and activity in college affairs and comprise one of the main women's service organizations on the campus. Frank W. Patrick was named athletic director and head coach of the CPS Loggers football team at the College of Puget Sound in 1946. He was a former University of Pittsburgh and National Pro All-American football star. He played with the Chicago Cardinals of the National Professional League in 1938 and 1939. At the 1937 Rose Bowl game, playing for the Univ. of Pittsburg, he carried the ball for two touchdowns and helped defeat the Huskies 21-0. Coach Patrick turned in his resignation after CPS's 1948 losing season. (Tamanawas, 1946)
