ca. 1932. Masonic Temple, 47 Saint Helens Ave., Tacoma. The Greek styled, with Egyptian detail, structure was designed by architect A.J. Russell. It was dedicated on December 1, 1927. The adjacent theater, right, was originally named the Heilig Theater, but the name was changed in 1932 to the Temple Theater. The building is on the City Registry. In 1992, it was renamed the Saint Helens Convention Center and renamed again in 1995, this time to the Landmark Convention Center.

Cooking School at Masonic Temple's Fellowship Hall conducted by Tacoma Times in mid-October of 1939. Mrs. William Schenk of 4311 Read St. accepts congratulations from City Light Appliance Department's Harold Partlow for winning a new electric range at the cooking school. Mr. Titcomb was the former General Manager of Weyerhaeuser Timber Co. and was married to Elizabeth Weyerhaeuser, oldest child of John Philip Weyerhaeuser. He was announced to the 1000+ diners as the 1938 president of the Tacoma Chamber of Commerce. The chamber's usual banquet was combined with the community dinner, hence the large crowd in attendance. Tacoma Mayor George A.Smitley (L) shaking hands with Harold A. Allen, retiring president of the Tacoma Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Allen had held the post for two years. The Chamber of Commerce combined their usual banquet with the city's Community Achievement Dinner on December 28, 1937, in the Masonic Temple's Fellowship Hall. Governor Clarence D. Martin and a host of political and civic leaders attended the dinner, as did approximately 1000 residents. Toastmaster Reno Odlin presented Mr. Allen with a framed check for $2 as a humorous gesture for his years of service. (T.Times, 12-29-37, p. 1) ALBUM 11.

Members of the Washington Cooperative Farmers Association display Lynden Broadbreast Turkeys during their luncheon at the Masonic Temple's Fellowship Hall on December 8, 1954. The Lynden firm is part of the Cooperative and provided ready to roast turkeys. This group is standing in front of a large poster demonstrating how the Co-op's eggs "go to market"; egg production was just one of the many enterprises they supported. 1600 Co-op members from District #6 attended the annual meeting and dined on turkey. At the meeting, Roy McChord was congratulated as the new manager of the Tacoma Station, replacing Dale Smith, who assumed management duties at the Co-op's credit division in Seattle. The South Tacoma Shops of the Northern Pacific Railroad received an impressive plaque from the company in honor of their achieving the best safety record for 1953. It was apparently the fourth time the South Tacoma Shops had won this award; previous years noted on the plaque included 1943, 1944, and 1945. Northern Pacific employees and guests enjoyed a special banquet in the Fellowship Hall at the Masonic Temple on May 27, 1954, where awards were presented. Seated in the photograph are: R.H. Eunice (Mrs. George W. ) Miller has her portrait taken dressed in a long, flowing cape over a floor length evening gown in March, 1953. She was to be the honoree at the installation ceremony held at the Masonic Temple on March 27, 1953, by the Daughters of the Nile, Zora Temple #5. She is wearing a tiara and carrying a large bouquet of flowers. There is apparently an Oriental rug on the floor while feathered stands, elaborate lamps and gilded columns complete the Middle Eastern atmosphere.

Mary (Mrs. Norton) Clapp, holding a bouquet of roses, awarded the Tacoma Chamber of Commerce "Best Dog" prize to Boston terrier, Champion Playfair Rockefeller, winner of the first annual Tacoma Kennel Club show. The terrier had already been named "Best in Show" by judge Irving C. Ackerman of San Francisco. The champion dog was owned by Jack Playfair of Portland. The Kennel Club show on April 24, 1938 closed a two day exhibit at the Fellowship Hall. (T.Times 4/25/1938, p.11).

Several trainers with their dogs at the first annual Tacoma Kennel Club show held at Fellowship Hall on April 23 and 24, 1938. Three hundred and five dogs competed for awards. Washington Cooperative Farmers Association held their 1952 stockholders' meeting at Temple Theater in Tacoma. Nearly 2,000 people from Pierce County and Enumclaw attended the annual nomination meeting of District No. 6 of the Washington Cooperative Farmers Association. Harold D. Foster of Sumner was renominated for director. He had held the post 21 years. Poultryman James Anderson of Edgemont was nominated for director as well. Washington Cooperative Farmers Association held their 1952 stockholders' meeting at Temple Theater in Tacoma. This was the 35th anniversary meeting of the cooperative. Wide interest was shown in news brought by Harry J. Daughters of the Nile installed their new queen, Mrs. Reuben Golliet of Olympia, at the Masonic Temple. In an elaborate setting depicting the throne room of an ancient temple several women are seated on a dimly lit stage while a woman stands near the front of the speaking into a microphone. The speaker's podium is a replica of an ornate, Corinthian column. Musical selections were sung by Mrs. Romona Rockway Grim and the Zora temple choir. (TNT, 3/23/1952, p.E-7)

In 1951, the Retail Clerks Union Christmas party was held at the Masonic Temple's Fellowship Hall. Santa Claus by the towering Christmas tree passed out bags of goodies to the large group of children whose parents were members of Local 367. (TNT 12-13-1951, C-11-article only)

Alice Wilson was installed as worthy adviser of the Tacoma assembly of Rainbow Girls in April of 1951. She is seen seated third from the left. The Gothic Room of the Masonic Temple was decorated with sea horses and fish. Margaret Ruff was the retiring worthy adviser. Other installing officers were Joyce Anderson, Ruth Brown, Ann Cox, Donna Moore, JoAnne Neff, Nadean Taylor, Carol Wallace and Joan Wilson. Group portrait of Swiss singers. The United Swiss Singing Societies of the Pacific Coast met in formal concert at the Temple Theater on Friday, July 21, 1950. It was the start of a three day festival of singing and yodeling. Seven cities, including Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Modesto, Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle, and Tacoma sent delegations to the festival.
