The school was designed by Heath and Gove, Architects, and opened in August of 1914 to serve the south side of Tacoma. The glass-encased multi-story fine arts annex at Lincoln High School was dedicated in November of 1957 and open for public viewing as part of the annual Back-to-School night and observance of American Education Week. It was the first major improvement at the school in several years. The modernistic steel and concrete Fine Arts Building is adjacent to the ivy-covered walls of the main building. From July 26-30, 1925, the Washington State College extension service sponsored their second annual vacation camp for Western Washington farm women at Lincoln High School. More than 50 women were enrolled, each representing a home economics club or community organization. The women took courses in home management, nutrition and the making of wearing apparel. Here, six women in aprons intently watched a teacher crack an egg in what appears to be a baking lesson. On the counter are three bowls, milk, eggs and the baked finished product. Lincoln High School was strictly off limits to men folk during camp. The women bunked on cots set up in the gym. They attended classes during the four days, two a day each about 1 hour 45 minutes long, but also had plenty of time for swimming, walking, dancing and play. The 1948-49 Lincoln High School A Capella Choir posed on the stairs of the main entrance to the school in December of 1948. They are wearing the new robes that were purchased with money raised by the 1947-48 choir. The first appearance of the robes, with their distinctive satin stoles decorated with a large capital L, had been at the 1948 Baccalaureate Services. The A Capella Choir was one of the busiest organizations at Lincoln H.S. and the holiday season was their busiest time of year, culminating in the annual Christmas Vespers Concert which was held on December 19th in the school auditorium. The choir was directed by Margaret Goheen; Leonard Jacobsen from the College of Puget Sound was their pianist. (T. Times, 12/12/48, p. 32).

Sunnbonnett Girl operetta held at Lincoln High School, Stewart High School, Neal Wynn. The Tacoma Council of Parents and Teachers sponsored the operetta as a benefit for the March of Dimes. The cast included students from the College of Puget Sound, Lincoln High School and Stewart Junior High School. Between the acts Stadium High School students presented speciality numbers. The program was presented at Lincoln High School February 4th and 5th, 1949. (TNT, 2/2/1949, p.26)

Picture of the Lincoln High School Girls Choir for the 1951 school yearbook, the Lincolnian. The newly formed Girls Choir was the choral farm club for the senior choir. The girls were taught music theory and harmony. This group performed at the Easter assembly and also sang on KMO's Campus Radio Theatre in April. In 1951, the Lincoln High School Music Department became one of the first amateur groups in the country to produce the award winning "Brigadoon," the Scottish time travel musical. The Lincoln High School Advanced Girls Glee Club for the 1951 yearbook, the Lincolnian. Girls progressed from the Glee Club to perform in this advanced group, then on to Girls Choir and finally Senior Choir. During the process, they learned a great deal about music and singing. The 1951 yearbook was dedicated to those who built the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, "To those men who once had a dream and who resolutely hewed their way through all obstacles that blocked their path." Lincoln High School enjoyed a thriving musical atmosphere in the 1950's. Both the school orchestra and band attracted many participants. The orchestra performed in the senior class play, Christmas Vespe play and winter concert, among others. They traveled to local junior high schools to acquaint the students with Lincoln's talented musicians. The orchestra's performances were broadcast over the Campus Radio Theatre to give the people of Tacoma a chance to hear local musicians. Lincoln High School had a large and thriving band in the 1950's. Members, pictured performing in the school auditorium in a January, 1953, photograph, were impressively dressed in dark uniforms with gold shoulder braid. Under the direction of Robert Dezell, who also directed the school orchestra, the Lincoln band performed for each basketball and football game. They, like the school orchestra, traveled to junior high schools in the area to promote Lincoln's fine musicians. The band was honored to represent the City of Tacoma and Lincoln High School in the annual Wenatchee Apple Blossom Festival where they marched in the parade and participated in the band jamboree. Lincoln High School orchestra for the 1954 school yearbook "The Lincolnian." The orchestra performed under the direction of Robert Dezell. The orchestra performed at the Western Washington Fair in Puyallup and presented concerts at the middle schools, introducing them to classical music. They performed the "Nutcracker Suite" in conjunction with the girls' choir and the Corp de Ballet. Other highlights for the year were orchestrations to Handel's "Messiah."
