Members of the Tacoma Country and Golf Club reveled at a masquerade ball at the clubhouse on Halloween, 1934. In the center in kilts with wig askew was future Mayor of Tacoma Harry P. Cain. To the far left was his wife, Marjorie Cain, dressed as a Russian cossack. Cain was holding the leg of an unidentified French maid, as an unidentified aviator held that of his wife in this interesting picture. The unidentified cross dressing couple to the right smiled merrily at the camera.

Mrs. John Yerxa, the former Babbie Gilpin, and her small daughter Constance were photographed at the Country Club summer home leased by her brother Joseph Gilpin. In June of 1938 four Tacoma girls who were part of the "sub-deb" set were photographed on the lawn of the Tacoma Country and Golf Club, 13204 Gravelly Lake Drive S.W., as they gathered for a busy day of summer sports. Holding her sunglasses and tennis racket is Catharine Snyder, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frost Snyder. The three young ladies on bicycles are: (l to r) Hazel Schaeffer, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. R.C. To celebrate their 54th year in the banking business, National Bank of Washington threw a gala banquet and entertainment for 180 directors, officers and employees at the Tacoma Country Club on October 21, 1939. Pictured are Board Chairman Samuel L. Jackson with three young female employees of the bank, dressed in formal gowns. Posed, left to right, are Helen Salander, Barbara Jo Huntsman and Lola Huff. (T. In May of 1940, Ruth Babbit was photographed swinging into the spring golfing season at the Tacoma Country and Golf Club. Every Tuesday was Ladies' Day at the Club, and over 50 female members took the opportunity to practice their follow through on the links. Ruth Kennedy Babbit was the wife of Alexander Babbit, then assistant manager of the Bank of California National Association. Mrs. Babbit also excelled in figure skating, later becoming an international skating judge, and was a well known water color artist. She passed away on August 31, 1992, at the age of 89. (T. An unidentified bank employee is surrounded by a bevy of beautiful co-workers at the National Bank of Washington company party held October 19, 1940 at the Tacoma Country and Golf Club. The bank was celebrating its 55th anniversary in business. The party was attended by 200 officers and employees from the Tacoma main branch and all surrounding branch offices.

Tuesday was Ladies' Day at the Tacoma Country Club. One of a pair of unidentified female golfers takes a swing while the teenage caddie looks on. The country club purchased the R.B. Lehman farm on the eastern shore of American Lake in 1904. The final price for a total of 287 acres was $7,000. (Country Club One Hundred Years almanac)

On June 30, 1943, women at the Tacoma Country Club make surgical dressings for the war injured. The women are working at tables in a cheerful room washed with window light and decorated with floral wallpaper. Most of the women are wearing the white uniform and coronet and veil of the Red Cross Production Service. The volunteers at the Country Club worked Mondays and Wednesday from 12-4 and Friday 10-4.

In June of 1943, four women load boxes of surgical dressings into a Red Cross paneled station wagon at the Tacoma Country Club in Lakewood. During the war, the clubhouse served several days a week as a Surgical Dressing Production Unit. Pictured left to right in their white Red Cross Production Service uniforms are Joyce (Mrs. Herbert) Syford, Mrs. Harry H. Tacoma Country Club's Junior Council was pleased to be hosting their first holiday dance, dancing would continue until midnight. The Junior Council was planning spring time activities as well. The Ida Baille Guild, Tacoma Orthopedic Association, staged a style show and Easter Parade for 100 members who attended the guild luncheon March 22, 1948, at the Country Club. Mrs. John Seward of Helene's Inc. was the stylist. The women posed on the staircase in an assortment of Easter bonnets (styled by Lee Durrell), dresses and suits. Helene's, located on Gravelly Lake Drive SW, sold women's clothing. Names listed in paper. (T.Times, 3/27/1948, p.9)
