Mayor Cain acted as Toastmaster. Mr. Langlie had been involved in a very close gubernatorial race with Spokane Democrat and former U.S. Senator C.C. Dill who refused to concede weeks after the election. Mr. Langlie would be the only GOP candidate to win a major office in Washington State in 1940. TPL-4586.
