Foster-Kleiser billboard advertising Tacoma's Community Chest "for human needs." "Give in your own City." Based on the success of the War Chest in World War I, a plan was proposed to help individuals join their forces together in the Community Chest to help those in their own communities in need. New barracks for medical corps at Fort Lewis. Lettering over doorway reads "Medical Detachment." The new quarters were erected adjacent to the Fort Lewis hospital as part of a six year, 5 1/2 million dollar development plan at Fort Lewis. Camp Lewis was built during WW I, on land given to the military as a gift. After the war, the camp fell into disrepair. In March of 1926, Congress passed a ten year building plan to revitalize several military posts, including Camp Lewis. In September of 1927, Camp Lewis was redesignated as Fort Lewis. (T. In March of 1926, Congress passed a ten year building plan to revitalize several military posts, including Camp Lewis. In September of 1927, Camp Lewis was redesignated as Fort Lewis. During the Depression, the government embarked on a six year, five and a half million dollar development plan at Fort Lewis. Wooden structures were replaced by ones of brick, stucco and steel. Over 80 buildings were completed by the end of 1934, as well as new roads and water mains. Fort Lewis was ready to take its place as a major US installation. (T. Times 11/23/1934, pg. 1) TPL-8303

ca. 1933. Afifi Temple window display featuring 100 dolls made by Chinese women in the American Board Mission at Tientsin, China. The dolls were donated to the Afifi Temple in Tacoma by the Dragons Oasis Shriner Club of Tientsin, China for distribution to crippled children in Shriner Hospitals. Exhibit illuminated by two ornate Chinese-style hanging lights.

A large sign makes it adamantly clear that Tacoma City Light did not pay for the electricity used for the outdoor Christmas street decorations in the South Tacoma business district in December of 1952. The South Tacoma Business Club paid for the private power. Crouching next to a portable high voltage generator are Steve Pease and C.A. Erdahl, commissioner of public utilities. ca. 1935. Maccabees Orchestra, circa 1935. Woman sitting at piano holding banjo, three men standing in row with drums, guitar and saxophone. To the left is a xylophone and in front of the drums is a violin. The Maccabees were a fraternal and benevolent organization for men, providing monetary benefits in the case of sickness, disability or death. It ceased as a fraternal organization in 1962, becoming a life insurance company. (filed with Argentum)

ca. 1933. Bohemian Club, for Mr. Columbino. Bartenders behind bar, man who appears to be owner or manager in foreground. Customers at bar in background. Caption reads "Good Luck and Prosperity to the Bohemian Club." The Bohemian Club was located at 1325 1/2 Broadway in the Langert Building; the building has since been demolished.

According to the 1932 City Directory, Virges Drug Co. had multiple locations at 914 and 958 Pacific Ave. and 785 Broadway.
