Times. Coach Frank Patrick gives the team a chalk talk during the pre-game briefing. They are all crowded into the team's locker room. This was Coach Patrick's second season as Logger grid coach. The Tacoma Athletic Commision sponsored the 5th annual Grid-Go-Round in 1947. The game brought together the teams from Lincoln, Stadium, Bellarmine and Clover Park in the local football inaugural. Wayne Hanby, a Clover Park High School guard wearing his regulation leather helmet, was ready for action in the upcoming Grid-Go-Round on September 19, 1947 at the Tacoma Stadium. Ten thousand fans attended the 5th annual event, sponsored by the Tacoma Athletic Commission, that pitted Lincoln, Stadium, Bellarmine and Clover Park against one another. Close up of several football players for Grid-Go-Round, Tacoma Athletic Commission, Ed Honeywell. LeRoy Little played defensive end for the Lincoln team for the second year. The Grid-Go-Round was played as an elimination affair with the four teams drawing for first round opponents, looser playing looser in the third period and the winners meeting in the final stanza. The Lincoln "Railsplitters" were defending champions in 1947. In the other four years of the Grid-Go-Round Lincoln and Stadium have each won twice. Stadium High School and Bellarmine High School were getting ready to battle it out for the 1947 City League Title. Both football teams had done exceptionally well during this first part of the season, a tough game was anticipated. The fire of 1944 happened in the midst of World War II therefore, Children's Industrial Home was not able to rebuild until several years later. In 1946 they celebrated 55 years of serving Tacoma's children, and announced the beginning of the rebuilding of the new main facilities. The Tacoma Women's Club fur fashion show on September 30, 1947, would feature the latest in fur fashions, followed by an explanation of the fur industry by Mr. J. A. Creque of the Puyallup Pelting Service. Mrs. Edward Wolf was selected to model a rare leopard skin coat. Several unidentified women are pictured admiring the full flared coat. (T. Visiting Hawaiian business people at Point Defiance, Times, Burt McMurtrie. Members of the Ship Mates, the women's auxiliary of the Tacoma Yacht Club, presented Northwesern-style, evergreen leis to the Hawaiian business people who visited Tacoma on a three-day good will tour. The leis are made of cedar, fern and other greenery. The Hawaiians would follow their age-old tradition of throwing the leis overboard as an expression that they hope to return some day. While they were in Tacoma they discussed trade possibilities with members of the Tacoma Chamber of Commerce. They left Point Definace for Olympia aboard a fleet of Tacoma-built Fairliners. Publicity, Girls selling Follies tickets, Junior League, Nancy Custis. The Junior League Follies would be held November 12th and 13th, 1947. Two Junior League members show the program from the upcoming Follies to encourage a young shoe salesman to buy tickets to the fund raising event. On Thursday October 9, 1947, the Tacoma Charter of Building Laborers and Hod Carriers honored three members with honorary life membership at a dinner in their union hall. D. L. McInnis became a member in 1916; Joe Collins in 1917; and Dan Avery , a member of the local in Denver, CO in 1888, helped establish the Tacoma chapter when he moved to Tacoma in 1905 and was present when it received its charter in 1911. Mayor C. Val Fawcett studies a pre-publication copy of the September, 1947 issue of Holiday Magazine in his office in Tacoma's (Old) City Hall in August of 1947. Tacoma received three pages, including 5 photographs, in the 36 page section of the issue devoted to Washington State. The long article, written by northwest author Nard Jones, included over 90 photographs of scenic views, Washington industries and her people. Tacoma's Community Chest Parade officially kicked off the 1947 fund raising campaign. Thousands of people gathered on Pacific Avenue to enjoy one of the most colorful parades in Tacoma history. Tacoma businesses, organizations and community members gathered together in the hopes of making it a successful campaign. Ingleside Cafe, Ponders Station, Ft. Lewis Highway. A large billboard for Olympia Beer shows over the roof of the cafe. Automobiles are parked outside the cafe which has a large awning over the windows on the parking lot side. The neon sign near the front door advertises fountain service. Additional neon signs placed over the roof dormers spell, "E-A-T". The Ingleside Cafe opened at this location in 1940. TPL-2535

Forseth, is holding since the suitcase is already too full to handle everything that's already in it. Shirley Ruman's father, Frank A. Ruman, had been in Africa on business and she arranged to meet him in Paris before he headed to another part of the world. She would spend ten days in New York City before flying to Paris. She carries a handbag and wears gold toned bracelet, necklace and earrings. A fur stole hangs over a chair next to her. Miss Saxton is listed as a student in the 1947 Tacoma City Directory. She was the daughter of Malcolm and Winifred Saxton. Mr. Saxton was president of Saxton's Inc at 6030 South Tacoma Way. Lou Johnson had two women's clothing stores in Tacoma at this time; one at 755 Broadway and the Little Shop at 16 No. Tacoma Avenue.

Saxton's Inc., pottery set up, Mr. Saxton. Janet Saxton is making final adjustments to the display of ceramic vases. Many of the items on the display counter are shaped like animals, birds, shells, leaves and flowers. One is shaped like a violin and another is in a cornucopia shape. Saxton's had been a lumber and millwork manufacturing company but was now known for hardware, furniture and home furnishings.

Model Saree Scott is wearing the portion of the Harry Winston collection of jewelry that was on display in Tacoma's Wisefield & Goldberg's store, 925 Broadway, for three days in September of 1947. The collection included the fabulous "Spellbound" clip, another 88 carat round and baguette diamond clip valued at $100,000, a necklace of round and baguette diamonds valued at $100,000 together with earrings, rings, and bracelets. Daniel Bennett, vice-president of Harry Winston, Inc., traveled with the collection from New York City. The "Spellbound" clip was the largest single piece of diamond jewelry made in the United States up to that time. Three men worked constantly over 6 month to match and assemble the 782 individual diamonds that comprised the complete clip. (T.Times, 9/22/1947, p.7; TNT, 9/24/1947, p.4)
