Mrs. Blanche Simonsen, of 2611 East "C" St., is comforted by her daughters Edna, left, Myrtle, right, and her mother Mrs. M. Bedford as she begins her journey to Olympia to plead with Governor Clarence Martin for a stay of execution for her 25 year old son Ted Bradley. Ted is scheduled to hang at 12:05 a.m. on May 11, 1934 at the state penitentiary at Walla Walla for the death of George Ikeda, Japanese grocer, during an attempted robbery in Seattle on March 17, 1932. A gun battle ensued with police who were hiding in Ikeda's store in anticipation of a robbery. Bradley and his mother felt that he was being framed by the police. Her pleas to Martin went unheeded and Ted Bradley was executed as scheduled. (T. Times 5/9/1934, pg. 1)

The Queen Anne home was built in 1891 for Mr. Schulze, who later committed suicide. The home was used by President Theodore Roosevelt in the early 1900's during a visit to Tacoma. Two unidentified employees operated the new bottling machine, which automatically filled and capped each glass bottle with pure fresh milk, at the Tacoma Dairy in November of 1926. Founded in 1902, the dairy opened a new, modern plant at 1802 East 27th Street in the fall of 1926. The dairy's new bottling operation had a capacity of 3,000 gallons of milk and cream a day. Its eight delivery trucks carried nine loads of milk each on a daily schedule throughout the city. The Tacoma Dairy was taken over by Medosweet Dairies Inc. in the mid-1950s. (TDL 12/12/1926, pg. The furniture company was located on the Tideflats, at the foot of the 11th Street Bridge, at 402 E. 11th St. The 1927 City Directory lists George Slyter as president, manager and secretary and W.D. Smith as vice president and treasurer. The company was noted for its manufacture of fine overstuffed furniture. They went out of business in 1933. (Argentum)

ca. 1927. Mrs. Ethel A. Adams posed in her new Whippet 4 coupe in front of the West Side Grocery Co., circa 1927. The new two passenger closed model of the Whippet Line was becoming very popular. ca. 1891. This portrait of Elisha P. Ferry, first Governor of Washington State, was taken circa 1891. On October 1, 1889, Washington voters ratifed the state's first constitution by a four to one majority. Republican Elisha P. Ferry (1825-1895), former lawyer and mayor, was elected governor. He served from 1889-1893. President Ulysses S. Grant had appointed Ferry governor of territorial Washington in 1872 and he was the only territorial governor to be appointed a second term. White Shield Home, Community Chest, Bob Lynd. The large home is separated from the road by a slope and many trees. A stairway leads from the sidewalk to the facility. The roof has many dormers and an open area with a flagpole. The Richards' photographer's Woody is parked on the street. The White Shield Home was dedicated in August of 1916 in ceremonies attended by Governor Ernest Lister. It helped young women and girls in need, a service it would provide until 1956. This photograph was taken as part of a series for the Community Chest, likely as promotional tools for its annual fund raising.
