Holland Furnace Company booth at Western Washington Fair in Puyallup. According the their sign, Holland had stores in Tacoma, Seattle, Olympia and Bremerton. Their store in Tacoma was located at 625 St. Helens Ave. (filed with Argentum)

On November 13, 1935, fire broke out in the kitchen of the Golden Cafe in Bremerton, quickly spreading to the remainder of the building, including the Golden Hotel. This photograph was taken from the east side, showing the damage to the Golden Cafe, Hotel and the neighboring Crows Nest Cafe. More than 30 guests escaped being trapped by the fast moving fire. The building was already scheduled to be torn down and replaced. In addition to the Golden Cafe and Hotel, the building was also home to the Pacific Drug Co. and the Gate Confectionery. National Bank of Tacoma Annual Picnic at De Koven Inn. DeKoven Inn was located on the east side of Lake Steilacoom. Many people at picnic tables. The Inn itself burned down August 2, 1925; the dance and banquet hall was saved and became the new Inn. ca. 1926. A furnace manufactured by the Gabriel Tubular Furnace Co., circa 1926, in Tacoma. The company had relocated from Seattle and was located at 1117 Tacoma Ave So. The furnaces were manufactured under the supervision of the Gehri Co., G.F. Gehri was president and Ernst Feix was the secretary-treasurer. The innovative furnace used no fire brick. In place of the brick, the fire box was surrounded by three inch steel tubes in a vertical position which radiated heat directly from the fire box to various feed pipes to the rooms. This method eliminated waste heat through radiation and reduced the consumption of fuel by 25-33 1/3 per cent. (TDL 5/2/1926, pg. E-10)(WSHS)

ca. 1926. A furnace manufactured by the Gabriel Tubular Furnace Co., circa 1926, in Tacoma. The company had been lured from Seattle and relocated to 1117 Tacoma Ave So. , where the furnaces would be manufactured under the supervision of the Gehri Co. The Gehri Co. was a pioneer sheet metal and blower works founded by Adolph Gehri in 1892. G.F. Gehri was president and Ernst Feix was the secretary-treasurer. The Gabriel Tubular furnace innovative heating method was invented by A.A. Gabriel of Portland. (TDL 5/2/1926, pg. E-10) (WSHS)

ca. 1934. The lunch counter of the Fifteen-Eighteen Cabaret, 1518 Pacific Avenue. Signboard menu offers sandwiches ranging from a dime hamburger to a fried oyster sandwich for a quarter. Men seated in front of counter; manager in tuxedo and waiters in white jackets behind the counter. All are reflected in the large mirror, which is surrounded by ornate columns.

George Miller, Jr, a shoemaker at the Bone-Dry Shoe Manufacturing Company factory in Tacoma, 2115 Pacific Ave., used a heavy duty industrial sewing machine in February, 1935, to sew the welt and insole to the upper of a boot. For nearly 40 years, craftsmen and craftswomen at Bone-Dry produced "corks", the standard footwear for loggers, and various other styles of boots and shoes. The Bone-Dry factory building is now home to McGranahan Architects. TPL-8549
