The photographer's notes for this image indicate that it is a photograph of "Aza Destiny." The black Arabian horse, Aza Destiny, was born in 1971, sired by Azraff ex Bint Bass Hisan. His progeny would later number over 60. On the lower part of this photograph is a signature, apparently "Johnny Johnston," perhaps the photographer. Photograph ordered by Glenn Ash, Spanaway.
A sharp contrast in size can clearly be seen between this tiny poodle and the much heftier German shepherd mix. The two dogs were photographed on May 8, 1974, on behalf of Pacific Northwest Bell.

This proud hunting dog belonging to Mr. and Mrs. Charles McPhail stood at attention beside a large collection of trophies and ribbons on December 1, 1966. Many award winning ribbons were taped to the stone fireplace in the McPhail residence, 8301 Tucka Way S.W. There were a number of silver trays and other trophies next to the dog. Baby chicks are kept warm under large heating units which can be raised or lowered by pulleys in a December 26, 1957, photograph. This may be a fairly large chicken farm since there are at least four heating units with many chickens peeking out from beneath, while others swallow feed or just roam. Two large Saint Bernards stand guard on the concrete porch close to a little girl and her big brother. Even the smaller dog is nearly as tall as the mittened child on her scooter and may virtually outweigh her. To make work easier for those who raised chickens on a large scale, Washington Cooperative Farmers Association provided their members with new ideas to save time and effort. A bulk feed unit with automatic feeder would cut down the time necessary to feed a large flock of chickens. The grain would be deposited into the feeding unit probably through an opening in the roof. Golden Jubilee Circus in Seattle with the Sea Fair Queen. Photo ordered by the Douglas Fir Plywood Association. The Sea Fair Queen makes friends with a lion, tiger and giraffe, part of the plywood menagerie travelling with the "Fir Plywood Golden Jubilee Show." The free show had something for every member of the family. It featured a color film showing how plywood is manufactured and some new ideas for modern living. Part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of plywood production, the show would be touring West Coast regions where plywood is manufactured. (TNT 7/10/1955, pg. C-17)

The Woodbrook Hunt Club's 1955 Spring Horse Show was held May 21-22, 1955 in the covered arena at the Woodbrook Stables. It featured exhibitions by the Pierce County Sheriff's Posse, square dancing on horseback by the Lariettes and a style show of what the best dressed horsewoman wears for Western riding, to an English hunt or square dancing. A member, believed to be Harold Lent, of the Woodbrook Hunt Club holds onto the reins of his horse on October 10, 1954. He is wearing hunting habit with a long jacket and cap. Woodbrook was one of the few hunting clubs in the country that maintained its own pack of hounds. This photograph would have been taken prior to the first hunt of the season. A woman and two younger girls tend to the two horses in this photo labelled Dr Hellyer, snow scenes. Dr. David T. Hellyer maintained an office in Tacoma at 722 So. K St.; but he resided at 7814 John Dower Rd. W. in Lakewood, which is most probably the location of this picture.
There are chickens as far as the eye can see in this June 4, 1953, photograph. There were many varieties of chicken houses; this evidently was much larger than the normal chicken coop. To keep the chickens warm, at least three metallic heater units are hanging above their heads. A woman is apparently adjusting the height of one of the heaters by tugging at a rope. The many eggs laid by these chickens would be then transported to the Washington Cooperative Farmers Association who would clean, rate and sell them on behalf of the farmer. Master of Foxhounds Earl Craig addresses the mounted members of the Woodbrook Hunt Club on the New Year's Day hunt held in 1953. The hunt club's pack of foxhounds surround Craig. Woodbrook is one of the few clubs in the country that maintains their own pack of hounds. The Woodbrook Hunt Club is still active, and they remain associated with the Masters of Foxhounds Association of America. They also still enjoy the sport of riding to hounds, but they do not hunt a live fox. They "drag hunt". The dogs follow a trail created by dragging a scent impregnated gunny sack along the ground. They use synthetic scent; the dogs follow a synthetic fox.
Albert H. Hooker divides his time between two roles as an industrialist and a rancher. He and his dog stand proudly together in a pasture while he inspects his Hereford cattle at his large ranch at McKenna. Marian's Timothy, a black Labrador owned by Marian McPhail, is shown with some of his prizes won in the National Field Trials. Tim was rated fourth nationally among the derby dogs for 1951 from a field of 725 derby starters. Derby dogs are those not more than two years old. Tim's sire was Rip of Holly Hill and his dam was the McPhail's Shady of Spanaway Creek. Marian (Mrs. Charles W.) McPhail ordered this portrait of her thoroughbred dog,

Formally established in 1926, the Hunt Club is a member of the Masters of Foxhounds Association of America and is one of the few clubs to maintain their own pack of foxhounds. Dr. Alexander G. Ruthven being initiated as an honorary member of the Pierce county Sheriff's mounted posse at Woodbrook Riding Academy. Dr. Ruthven, President of the University of Michigan, was visiting Tacoma and attending meetings with alumni and conferences regarding the University's program for the development of peace time uses of nuclear power. Lee L. Doud, the first president of Woodbrook Hunt Club and also one of its founders, is pictured with his palomino, "Bourbon Blue Dare," near the club stables on October 16, 1948. A drag hunt is where the riders follow behind the hounds; the animals following a scent that has been literally dragged along the ground. Lee L. Doud, one of the founders and the first president of the Woodbrook Hunt Club, posed in front of the clubhouse on October 16, 1948 with his palomino Bourbon Blue Dare. The Club originated in 1925 through the efforts of Mr. Doud and J.E. Mathews. In 1948, the Club divided its time between the summer rides, picnics and gymkhanas and the winter drag hunt.
