Group of children with violins at Bernard Aus Music Shop in June of 1937. The children were the students of Mr. Aus, who was famous locally for developing musical prodigies. The group would be presenting a recital on June 11, 1937 in the Weyerhaeuser Hall. Pictured are, front row left to right, Virginia Wepfer, John Skupen, Billy Buck, Ronald Kilde (standing between seated boys), Robert Failing and John Joyce (standing far right.) Middle row: Jean Matthew, Joanne Sundstrom, Geraldine Iles and Elia Pangis. Standing rear: Donald Scheinnell, Kenneth Johnson and Alice Stockton. Game and card room at Tacoma's newest and most exclusive club, the Tacoma Club, located on the top floor of Washington Building. The Grand Opening for the Club's new quarters was held May 10, 1937. It was an invitation only event for members and their guests. Photograph is of the game room with several square game/card tables. Sam Perkins, left, and G. Herbert Raleigh, members of Tacoma's newest and most exclusive club- the "Tacoma Club," check over the furniture in the club's "lounging room" prior to the Grand Opening the evening of May 10, 1937. The Tacoma Club, located on the top floor of the Washington Building, was organized and incorporated in November, 1936. The original roster of members included leaders in lumber, retailing and manufacturing, banking, real estate, medical, and legal fields. S.A. "Sam" Perkins, newspaper publisher, was one of the first presidents of the club. George Herbert Raleigh was the manager of the Bank of California in 1937. Mid April 1937, Tacoma General Hospital bested their old record when 37 babies were born there in one week. Eighteen of the little ones posed for this picture from inside their glassed-in ward. Student nurse Maxine Balschley, left, held two of her charges up for the camera while Lorraine Greenough, supervisor of the maternity ward, held two more. The usual bundle production in a week at the hospital was 20-25. There were no multiple births in the week's bumper crop. (T.Times 4/15/1937, pg. 1) (filed with Argentum)

Businesswoman Lucille Frantz was one of the Tacoma Times' satisified Want Ad customers in 1937. This photograph of her on the telephone was included in a montage of pictures in a full page ad run by the newspaper as part of the celebration of National Ad Week in April. Prior to opening her Thrifty Beauty Salon at 947 Broadway in March of 1937, Lucille Frantz had been the manager of the Moler Beauty College at 1215 Pacific Avenue. Cigar firmly clutched in his teeth, Clarence Potter ordered his weekly advertising over the telephone in April of 1937. For National Want Ad week, the Tacoma Times ran a full page ad of satisfied want ad customers like Mr. Potter. He was founder and president of the Clarence Potter Co., 1006 S. Miss Matthews was an employee of the Tacoma Times advertising department, answering phone calls for the want ads. While attending Army Day at Fort Lewis on April 6, 1938, Emery Alling, Bill Clark, and Bob and Pete Burnell listened to Sergeant Edward B. Green explain how this field artillery piece was used in France, during World War I, to quell a German advance. Green was the only member of the gun crew who survived. Wounded twice, he was decorated with the Purple Heart, Distinguished Service Cross and Victory medals. (T. Times, 4/6/1938, p. 1).

Judge J. H. Nichols with the bird he selected as the Grand Champion, a Rhode Island Red rooster. The cock is the overall winner at the 44th Annual All-Northwest Winter Poultry Show. On March 10, 1938 the soldiers of Fort Lewis' 125 member 3rd Balloon Company, under the command of Major M. E. McHugo test flew the newest addition to their arsenal. The new blimp was 105 feet lomg and could attain a top speed of 40 miles per hour. It was considered to be a great advance over the blimps used during the First World War.
