Tacoma is treated to a parade on May 6, 1938 when Knights Templar from all over the state gathered here for the 51st Annual Conclave of the Grand Commandery Knights Templar of Washington. Unit of marching men in traditional dress uniforms with swords and plumed hats parade up 13th Street and turn north on Broadway.

Sam Perkins, seated on the right, and three other men pose for a portrait to celebrate Perkin's 73rd birthday. The event was held at the Tacoma Club in the Washington Building. Mr. Perkins had a long and varied work history in Tacoma. Sam Perkins and W.P. Bonney were partners in a wholesale and retail drug business in the late 1880s- 1890s. They went out of business in the depression of the early 90's when customers dried up. Mr. Perkins became the secretary of Mark Hanna, chairman of the Republican election committee for William McKinley. After the election, Perkins stayed on with Hanna for a while. Mr. Perkins returned to Tacoma in the late 90's as the owner of the Tacoma Daily Ledger and the News. His party at the Tacoma Club was attended by over 100 of his friends and business associates. (T. During his 50 years in Tacoma, he had served as the partner of W.P. Bonney in a wholesale and retail drug business, in Washington D.C. as the secretary of Mark Hanna and as owner of the Tacoma Daily Ledger and the News.

Sam Perkins celebrates his 73rd birthday with friends at the Tacoma Club. Mayor Smitley (far right) and another man sing happy birthday as he prepares to blow out the candles on his huge cake. Mr. Perkins was born in Boston on May 6, 1865 and was christened Sidney Albert Perkins. That moniker was soon shortened to "Sam." For his 73rd birthday, he was feted by some of the friends he made in over 50 years of business in Tacoma. Mr. Perkins was best known locally as the owner of the Tacoma Daily Ledger and the News. (T. The Knights Templar band in their traditional plumed hats marched past the Roxy Theatre (later known again as the Pantages) on May 9, 1938. Tacoma was treated to a colorful afternoon parade when Knights Templar from all over the state gathered here for the 51st Annual Conclave of the Grand Commandery Knights Templar of Washington. 148th Field Artillery Band with instruments. Group will play at Military Ball on May 20. Under director, Warrant Officer Louis G. Werson, the band won the state championship at Camp Murray encampment in 1938. The 148th F.A. was headquartered in Tacoma. (T. Times 5/12/1939, p. 20).

Wide angle portrait of the 110 students at Gault Junior High School representing the cast and chorus of the Hawaiian operetta "Tahita," which will be presented at the school on May 13, 1938. The plot was written by the girls in Miss Betty Harding's Glee Club. It is set in Hawaii, where Tahita, the heroine, was shipwrecked as a young child and raised by a native chieftain. She is found by an American aunt who wants to return her to the States to school. However, romance interferes in the person of the captain of the boat and a young bashful Southern sailor. (T. Lincoln High School is being overrun by pirates. Actually they are part of the annual Music Department performance on May 20, 1938. The Boys Glee Club developed the pirate scene entirely by themselves, complete with realistic sword play and sea chanties. In this scene, Dean McPhaden and his crew of pirates discover Elton Ramage attempting to break into the treasure chest. McPhaden hits Ramage across the back with his rapier and a duel ensues. (T.
