Scope and content
On March 17, 1942, the USS Doyle moved down the ways at the Seattle-Tacoma shipyard in Seattle, completing her launch. The Doyle is the only US Navy vessel to ever be named after Richard Doyle, who fought in the Barbary Wars. The vessel served first as a destroyer and later, after a re-fit, as a minesweeper. She also appeared in the 1954 movie "The Caine Mutiny," starring Humphrey Bogart.
