In April of 1939, concrete was being poured at the west caisson construction site. This photograph was taken from the top of the caisson looking down to where the concrete was being poured twelve to fifteen feet below. The concrete bucket (center) weighed six tons and carried the concrete from the mixing plant. The concrete is being dumped by the men into big hoppers. Other men down below take it out of the hoppers in little push-carts and dump it into the forms. (Argentum) (T. Times 4/20/1939, pg. 4)
