Scope and content
In April of 1939, work was underway on the west caisson of the Narrows Bridge. Workers have arrived at the construction site, located about 20 minutes out, on the tug right. It is tied up to a barge with a small building, probably the floating machine shop. The men are stepping onto the barge that holds the construction equipment. The caisson is located left. It is surrounded by a catwalk at the water line. The walkway surrounds the caisson but is separated from it by a few feet of water. It is not tied to the caisson which sinks into the water as it is constructed. (T. Times 4/20/1939, pg. 1)
