Sam Perkins, seated on the right, and three other men pose for a portrait to celebrate Perkin's 73rd birthday. The event was held at the Tacoma Club in the Washington Building. Mr. Perkins had a long and varied work history in Tacoma. Sam Perkins and W.P. Bonney were partners in a wholesale and retail drug business in the late 1880s- 1890s. They went out of business in the depression of the early 90's when customers dried up. Mr. Perkins became the secretary of Mark Hanna, chairman of the Republican election committee for William McKinley. After the election, Perkins stayed on with Hanna for a while. Mr. Perkins returned to Tacoma in the late 90's as the owner of the Tacoma Daily Ledger and the News. His party at the Tacoma Club was attended by over 100 of his friends and business associates. (T. Master of Foxhounds Earl Craig addresses the mounted members of the Woodbrook Hunt Club on the New Year's Day hunt held in 1953. The hunt club's pack of foxhounds surround Craig. Woodbrook is one of the few clubs in the country that maintains their own pack of hounds. The Woodbrook Hunt Club is still active, and they remain associated with the Masters of Foxhounds Association of America. They also still enjoy the sport of riding to hounds, but they do not hunt a live fox. They "drag hunt". The dogs follow a trail created by dragging a scent impregnated gunny sack along the ground. They use synthetic scent; the dogs follow a synthetic fox.

The Spinster Club held a "Bowery" dance at the Century Ballroom in Fife on February 25, 1938. The costume cabaret dance offered favors as prizes for the best costumes. Three unidentified young women in costumes smile at a man dressed in a sailor's uniform who is lighting a candle placed in the neck of a beer bottle. The men of Theta Chi fraternity pose on November 7, 1952, in their chapter room at the College of Puget Sound. Twenty five members are pictured with their fraternity crest which indicates the fraternity was first established nationally in 1856. Theta Chi's fall president was Norm Huber; his name, along with others, is listed in the 1953 Tamanawas yearbook. The fraternity had quite a successful year at C.P.S.; they placed first in the Homecoming Parade and also captured first place in the comic division of the Daffodil Parade. Academically, they were listed as first among Greek men. (1953 Tamanawas, p. 68-69)

Maruta Versemnicks, from Latvia, admires the doll and wardrobe which was sold to benefit the Tacoma-Pierce County School for Crippled Children. This was one of the benefit projects the Chi chapter, Beta Sigma Phi, had scheduled for the year. Sylvia (Mrs. Lloyd J.) Sass was chairman of the committee handling the project. Maruta is wearing a leg brace. From 1949-50, the School for Crippled Children was housed in the basement of the First Congregational Church at 211 So. J St. In 1953, the school moved to its new home at 5030 E. Roosevelt Ave. in Salishan. It would remain there for approximately ten years. (TNT, 11/2/1952, p.D-10)

A stage and runway was built at the College of Puget Sound Fieldhouse for the event that drew nearly 4000 people.

An immense crowd, nearly 4,000 people, turned out to find out that the rumors of a super-colossal, musical style parade with impersonations of presidential candidates were true. Several men entertained thousands during the semi-annual benefit for the Tacoma Orthopedic and Day Nursery organizations with an 1952 election year spoof. The stage was decorated as a giant television set. Hollis Day, alias "Stevenson" is on the soapbox, while Din Fuhrmeister, alias "Eisenhower" (far left) awaits his turn. Both sang rousing campaign songs. Mayor John H. Anderson is at far right in photo as a reporter with fellow "Meet the Press" cohorts Len Higgins, Virg Langdon, Norm Runions and Webster Judd. A group of eighteen women model formals in a style show that was a joint fund raiser for the Orthopedic Guild and the Tacoma Day Nursery presented by one of the local department stores. A stage and runway has been built at the College of Puget Sound Fieldhouse for the event. This year's style show departed from the custom of previous years when they were conducted over three succeeding days following luncheons. 950 fishermen took part in the Elks 1952 salmon derby in Commencement Bay. A prize board was completed for the winning fish with fifty-four prizes. First prize, a 14-foot boat motor, was awarded for a 26 pound, 8 ounce salmon brought in by Frank Lippincott. H.H. Mounsey was runner-up with a 21 pound, 6 ounce salmon. (TNT, 9/9/1952, p.18)

Afifi Shriners of Tacoma in Seattle for water parade on the Lake Washington Ship Canal. Night scene of waterway. Thousands of spectators lined the Lake Washington Ship Channel as the Afifi Temple of Tacoma float was towed by during the Shriners Marine Pageant in Seattle 7/10/1936. A huge barge carrying members of the Afifi Temple Band and a large replica of Mount Rainier is pictured just after it passes the draw of the Montlake Bridge in this night scene.The float, designed by Walt Sutter, featured thousands of gallons of water pouring down from an imitation Narada Falls.
