The Grand Opening of the Midget Auto Races Track at Athletic Park was on Friday May 10, 1946. The cars raced under flood lights, with time trials starting at 7 p.m. and races at 8:15 p.m. General admission was $1.50; children and servicemen were 75 cents. Thirty-six young golfers competed in the Northwest Prep Championship Tournament held in July of 1946. Nalley's Bowling team is gathered together at North End Alleys. Most Tacoma businesses had bowling leagues. They would compete against other leagues and eventually participate in a tournament, the winner would get a trophy.

Bellarmine High School Basketball team. The Bellarmine High School sophomore basketball team are the champions of the Tacoma sophomore league. The just beat the Lincoln and Stadium teams. Times Golf Tournament. These men were part of the committee behind the 1945 Tacoma Open Golf Classic that was held May 27, 1945, at the Allenmore course. The Tacoma All-stars bowling team took on a Seattle team in April and May of 1945 in the fourth annual inter-city championship tournament. Bowling for Tacoma were: seated (l to r) Ted Tadich and Bill Eggleston, wearing matching bowling shirts, and standing (l to r) are Pvt. Joe Wilman, Johny Radonich and Frank Barker. Pvt. Amateur boxer Dick Ross worked out under the instruction of Homer Amundsen in January 1945. Amundsen is wearing a body bag that allowed him to take punches to the stomach without being injured. Boxing was a popular sport in Tacoma during the 1940's. Boxing bouts were taking place at the State Armory ring, and many boxers were training at Amundsen's Gymnasium at 719 1/2 Commerce St. Homer Amundsen tried to supply the most modern training equipment for athletes. The Cammaranos sponsored by the Cammarano Brothers bottling company took on the All-American Air Tecs from Wright Field, Ohio in January of 1945 at Lincoln H.S. in a benefit game to raise money for the dependents of air force casualties. The Air Tecs were hand picked by their coach from the best players in the Air Technical Service Command and included Dwight Eddlemann who had played on the Big Ten championship team of 1943 and 6 ft. 8 inch Cpl. John Mahnken from Georgetown University. The Air Tecs made easy work of the Tacoma team, beating the local boys 63 to 39. William and Philip Cammarano founded the Cammarano Brothers bottling company in 1934. They bottled and distributed a wide selection of soft drinks including Twang Root Beer, Double Cola, Mission Orange, Squirt, and Paradise Club Soda. (T. Times, 1/17/45, p. 11). TPL-8846
