Scope and content
In November of 1936 the Fishers Department Store in downtown Tacoma was celebrating its 47th year in business. For a newspaper article about the history of the store, Roberta Cohoon modeled this dress made from fabric bought at Fishers parent store in 1889. After almost five decades, the daintily patterned shirtwaist dress, with its pinched waist, leg-o-mutton sleeves and full, long skirt, was still in perfect condition. The mother of Mrs. G.W. Kennard had bought the fabric at A.H. Sandford & Co. Dry Goods at 1109 Tacoma Avenue. The store after a few changes of partners and addresses became The Fisher Company located at 1104 Broadway. (T.
