ca. 1958. Photograph taken in 1958 from in front of the Security Building (917 Pacific Ave.) looking south down Pacific, including the intersection at Pacific and 10th. On the left is the building originally constructed for the Tacoma National Bank in 1885-88. Its 1958 occupants included the Smoke Shop Tavern (921), the Travel Center of Tacoma (923) and Archie's Coffee Cup (925 Pacific Ave.) This building has since been demolished. On the south side of 10th is the W.H. Opie & Company building at 1001-05 Pacific Ave. It is followed by a narrow building housing the Pierce County Federal Savings and Loan Association (1007) and the ornate columns of the Bank of California (1011). The following building is the 17 story modern American style Washington Building. Construction started in 1919 for the Scandinavian- American Bank but was halted when the bank failed. It was completed in 1925.

The Anderson Building at the corner of 10th and Pacific was built in 1941, and in 1942 became the new home for Knapp College, the Federal Insurance Group, Gale's Rugs, and the Lutheran Service Center. Knapp's Modern Business College was founded in 1921 and for many years was the only fully accredited business training school in Tacoma. In 1965 they remodeled and expanded their building, and in 1975 they moved to 1001 North J Street. After being in business for almost 70 years, Knapp College declared bankruptcy and closed in 1990.

It also displays a full corner view with tower forming point at second level and curve at first floor. The Anderson Building was constructed in 1941; it was designed by architect Albert Gardner. Knapp College was located on second floor. The Camera Shop, at right, with window display sold Ansco films and Kodak supplies.

There is a curved marquee above glass double-doors with half-circle hardware forming circle. Realtors neon sign and "Knapp College Time" clock at window on second floor of the Opie Company's main office. Their motto apparently was "We seek only what is right"; it is placed above the entry way.

ca. 1950. This photograph of the offices of W. H. Opie Realtors was taken around 1950. The office was located at the intersection of 10th and Pacific Ave., 1001-05 Pacific. The clock in the window upstairs gives the "Knapp College Time" of 2:40. The modernistic structure was built in 1941 and was named the "Anderson Building" after builder Mrs. R.E. Anderson. It is constructed of concrete and crystal glass. Knapp College had occupied the 2nd floor since 1941.
