Computer center in Ward Smith, Inc. building. Several employees of Ward Smith, Inc., are pictured on December 29, 1967, at work in the mortgage banking firm's computer room. Pictured, left to right, are John Owens, Douglas Willrich and Wayne Graham, Computer center manager. New IBM equipment for punched card data processing was necessary to handle the combined 27,000 loan accounts of the Ward Smith, Inc., and Coast Mortgage & Investment firms which had recently merged. The company had moved into new headquarters at 10th & A Sts. in January, 1965. Lea, Pearson & Richards, Tacoma architects had designed the 20,000 square foot building, built by Kirkebo & Sons. The office building was air conditioned and constructed of reinforced concrete with brick veneer. Ward Smith, Inc., was founded in September, 1943. Photograph ordered by Ward Smith, Inc.
