In June of 1949 a new concrete block Dairy Queen and a Karmelkorn Shop opened on the corner of North 1st and North E in the Stadium district opposite of Stadium High School. The new "fast-food" restaurant was the fifth Dairy Queen in the Tacoma area. Dairy Queen was known for its 5 and 10 cent soft ice-cream cones "with the curl on top".
