Fire at Western Steel Casting Company. Black smoke billows from the flash fire that caused an estimated $2,500 in damage to the Western Steel Casting Co., 1101 E. "F" St., on Monday afternoon, October 20, 1941. A short circuit in the wiring was blamed for the fire which destroyed the plant's roof and one end of the frame building. Seven engine companies responded to the 12:52 p.m. alarm and had the blaze under control in 18 minutes. One man, Frank Bores, was injured with burns about his hands when he attempted to retrieve personal belongings from the locker room. (T.Times 10-21-41, p. 2)
