The four-story brick and tile building in the foreground is the Roosevelt Apartments, as pictured in late July of 1930. Built in late 1929, the $125,000 structure was designed by architects Lundberg, Mahon & Ekvall and had a Philippine mahogany interior. Behind the Roosevelt is the Lauan Apartments, 818 So. 11th St., which was built in 1925 on behalf of John Buffelen and furnished with Tacoma-made products.
