In February of 1931, Lucille Dyment, 6, and her sister Mardelle, 8, offered food items to Harry D. Hurlbut, president of the 4L Band, in exchange for admission to the concert at the Gault Intermediate School auditorium. The girls were the grandchildren of City Commissioner Dyer Dyment. More than 1 and one half tons of food were collected at this event sponsored by the McKinley Hill Improvement Club. This was the first year that the 36 piece volunteer band had performed relief concerts, and this was the 12th concert so far. Over 21,000 pounds of food had been collected in all for the needy and unemployed. Cast members of play presented by Gault Intermediate School pose on stage in late January of 1928 during what was probably dress rehearsal. "The Little Princess" was performed by Gault 9th graders as a feature of graduation exercises. The play was first presented on Wednesday afternoon, January 25th, for school pupils. Most, if not all, intermediate schools (later called junior highs) put on at least one play during the school year. Gault Intermediate was renamed Gault Junior High also in 1928. Ten boys from Gault Junior High School, 1115 East Division Lane, formed a human pyramid in December of 1948. This was just one of the many body-building sports and activities they engaged in during gym class. 9A Class, Franklin B. Gault School, Jan. 1927 Franklin B. Gault intermediate school opened in February of 1926. The school was designed by Hill & Mock. It was intended to serve Tacoma's East Side. It was named after Dr. Gault, superintendent of Tacoma's schools from 1888-1892. The school, with additions, is still in use in 2006. (WSHS)

This striking tableaux is a scene from a three act play called "It Will Be All Right on the Night" presented by the Physical Education Department of Gault School in their Auditorium on December 16, 1938. The play is directed by Gordon E. Tatum. The eighteen pictured boys obtained their glistening silver appearance by covering their bodies with paint. Three are pictured attached to crosses; the rest in tormented positions around them. Wide angle portrait of the 110 students at Gault Junior High School representing the cast and chorus of the Hawaiian operetta "Tahita," which will be presented at the school on May 13, 1938. The plot was written by the girls in Miss Betty Harding's Glee Club. It is set in Hawaii, where Tahita, the heroine, was shipwrecked as a young child and raised by a native chieftain. She is found by an American aunt who wants to return her to the States to school. However, romance interferes in the person of the captain of the boat and a young bashful Southern sailor. (T. The Gault "Nonettes" were one of the vocal ensembles that performed at the Gault Junior High School annual spring music festival held on May 7, 1941. Gault School children for Red Cross. Students of Gault Junior High School are placing hand-made Christmas items in a large display case. The gifts and decorations were made by all schools throughout Tacoma and Pierce County. The American Junior Red Cross was a separate section of the American Red Cross. They were important in supporting programs for children in need. The school, opened February 1, 1926, was named after Dr. Franklin B. Gault, Superintendent of Tacoma Schools from 1888 - 1892. Gault School had a May Day celebration, which included selecting a May Day Queen.
