Modernized kitchen of Weyerhaeuser advertising director Carroll O'Rourke. The Gravelly Lake Dr. home of Carroll and Patricia O'Rourke was built in the Southern Colonial style in 1914. Since then the home once belonging to William Laird McCormick has been updated to include a modern kitchen, complete with kitchen island shown above on March 2, 1966. Wood dominates the combination kitchen and dining areas with many cabinets and paneling. A dining room table and chairs are built in the Early American style; a perfect spot to have a cup of coffee while reading a magazine. French doors lead to another room off the kitchen; similar doors are opposite the table leading to the wooded yard. Photograph ordered by the Weyerhaeuser Co.

Kitchen in the Carroll O'Rourke home. This kitchen island located in the Gravelly Lake Dr. home of Weyerhaeuser Co. advertising director Carroll O'Rourke adds a modern touch to the Southern Colonial built in 1914. The island, complete with wood enclosed fan and light fixture, stands apart from the dishwasher and sink area. Smoke from the stove units would be absorbed by the powerful fan. The island came complete with many storage units for kitchen utensils and cooking gear. A large wood dining table and chairs in the Early American style is adjacent to the kitchen island. While eating, family members could easily view the outdoors through the glass-paned doors and many windows. Photograph ordered by the Weyerhaeuser Co.

Briarhurst. This large Southern Colonial has been identified as "Briarhurst," constructed in 1914 for William Laird McCormick. The brick 2+ story home on Gravelly Lake Dr. S.W. in Lakewood was built for $20,000 by the Cornell Brothers. It later became the home of Edwin Lewis Griffin of Griffin Fuel Co., who passed away on the premises in March, 1955. By 1966, it was the home of Carroll O'Rourke, an executive with the Weyerhaeuser Co. A woman, possibly Mrs. O'Rourke, stands on the patio of the elegant home in May, 1966. Its columns are reminiscent of the White House. The home has several balconies and numerous French-doors and was located on a large, well-landscaped lot surrounded by trees. Photograph ordered by the Weyerhaeuser Co. from customer's negative. (Additional information provided by Donna Gray)
