On July 3, 1942, Estelle (Mrs. E.W.) Demarest (left) and Mrs. Herbert Hunt inspected the vegetables in Mrs. Demarest's victory garden in Lakewood. The overflow from the gardens of the Tacoma Garden Club members had been promised to the Children's Industrial Home which was having trouble staying within its food budget because of rising prices. Garden Club members from both Tacoma and the Lakes District were donating produce from their victory gardens to the Home. Mrs. Hunt was the chairman of the Children's Industrial Home.
