Three little ballerinas practice their plies at the barre on an October afternoon in 1951. Arlene Lamont, Susan Marie Garrett and Kathleen Goucher are in the beginners' ballet class. In 1951 there were a number of dance schools in Tacoma that taught ballet including the Novikoff School of Russian American Ballet at 431 Broadway and the Helen Martin Denn Studio of Dance at 1151 1/2 Broadway. A reader advises that this particular dance studio was located at 902 1/2 North 2nd St., Division at North I, on the upper floor of a two-story building. That was the Lewis Harter Studios.
