The Ozanam Home for the Aged, located at 19th & Yakima Avenue South, had formerly been the old Visitation Academy before it formally reopened as a Catholic home for elderly men and women on September 17, 1929. This view, taken on February 1, 1930, shows the exterior of the massive structure with the St. Joseph Hospital in the background. Ozanam Home was dedicated to Frederic Ozanam, founder of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. It had approximately 33 residents who were cared for by the Sisters of Charity of Providence. Dependent senior citizens were provided a comfortable home with large, sunny rooms and well tended grounds to stroll about. Over $36,000 had been spent in remodeling and refurnishing the building including installation of an elevator. Ozanam Home for the Aged had a maximum capacity of about 70 persons.
