Arthur J. and Dorothy Bachelor and their children, Rudy, 11 and Margie, 7 pose at their 2102 No. Winnifred home with the 53- foot cabin cruiser "Margie" that they are building in their yard. They have built a large carport enclosure to keep the boat dry while she is being worked on. The Bachelors owned the Art Craft Photo Service while Mr. Bachelor also served as the commander of the Tacoma Power Squadron, a national organization created to teach boat owners to operate safely. The sea going yacht was built from a surplus Navy boat with modern conversions and appointments for family living designed by William Garden, Seattle architect. The family purchased the Navy boat on January 13, 1956 and began work in their backyard in February under the direction of Martin Leed, local shipwright. The boat was launched in the City Waterway on August 2, 1956; her maiden voyage was planned across open waters to Canada. (TNT 8/5/1956, pg. B-8)
